3 Sunny Days in Cannon Beach, Oregon

Sunny days in Cannon Beach in October are nearly unheard of.

Or so I’ve been told. However, the 3 days I spent there in October were absolutely stunning. Not a cloud in the sky most of the time, warm sun, a cool breeze, and a whole lot of beautiful beach. After a rainy day in Astoria, this was welcomed with great applause.

The coastal town of Cannon Beach is popular with tourists and locals alike, and it can get pretty busy over the weekend, even in the cooler months. But I was there from Wednesday to Friday and it was the perfect amount of hustle and bustle. Not bare and empty, but not over crowded. The town is made up of beautiful buildings, all in the same style, creating a gingerbread-house like village, with cute shops and sweet shops. There’s even a Christmas store, which is open all year round.

We arrived on a Wednesday evening after driving through Astoria to the north, so the the first full day was the Thursday. I spent the day wandering through all the shops, picking up souvenirs and gifts, taking photos of the stunning Hay Stack rocks down the coast a little ways. On the Friday I had exhausted all the shops, so spent the entire morning down on the beach reading my book (which at that time was Six of Crows), coffee in hand and sun over head. It was the best way to spend a morning. Ever.

That evening I jumped on the bus and headed off to Portland, where I would be for the next week visiting family and friends.
