A Month of Books :: My Favourite Books

With so many hundreds of thousands of books out there in the world, I think it’s often hard to just pick one that’s your ultimate favourite. I, like most of the reading world I’m sure, have many favourite books. I’ve tried to narrow it down to just 5 favourites, and though I’m sure you know all of these already (I’m sure I’ve talked about them before, or you’ve seen on Blogger’s Bookshelf), I thought it would be neat to see if any of them have changed recently. I’ve tried to pick my favourites from a few different genres, so here we go!

Fantasy // Harry Potter Series, by J.K.Rowling

If you’ve been hanging out on From L&P to English Tea for even a short time, you’ll probably know that I have a little a huge obsession with all things Harry Potter. Needless to say, these books are my favourite of all time. The amount I’ve read and re-read this series is so numerous that all my copies are being held together with tape and love. I kid you not.

Honourable mentions: The Hobbit, by J.R.R.Tolkien // The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S Lewis  // The Inheritance Series, by Christopher Paolini

Dystopian // The Divergent Series, by Veronica Roth

An amazing dystopian series, which I think I enjoy more than the Hunger Games (gasp!). I love love love this series, and because I read the first two one after the other in the space of about 3 days in the summer of 2012, it was an agonizing year’s wait for the release of the 3rd and final instalment. But it was so worth it, and I’m really looking forward to the movie coming out this year!

Supernatural/Paranormal // Mortal Instruments Series, by Cassandra Clare

And also the Clockwork Angel Series, also by Clare. These books are so great, and while I haven’t read the latest book in each of the series, I can’t wait to read them. I haven’t seen the movie yet, and I’m a little scared that they would have ruined it, but if they have, then it’s okay. The books are amazing, and are definitely ones I could read over and over again.

Non-fiction // Young House Love, by John and Sherry Petersik

Have you guys seen their blog!? It’s one of my most favourite blogs ever. They are an amazing couple from the USA who are DIY geniuses. Their blog is incredible, as is the book they made a few years ago. Or maybe it was just last year…? Anyway, it’s a great book chock-a-block of DIY ideas for your home, from colour palettes to bookshelf arranging to DIY funky frames and creative awesomeness for your home. I love flicking through it, getting inspiration. If you’re into DIYing in your house, I highly recommend their book.

Children’s Books // A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket

These books. What can I say? They are for younger readers, and I remember reading the first one and loving it when I was about 13 years old. And I still love them. If you follow Blogger’s Bookshelf then you may recall my review last year on thisseries. I love the story lines in each book, and the characters that pop up in and amongst the main characters. Snicket also has an awesome writing style that is a lot of fun to read.

And I’m sure there are so many more, and books that I will love in the future that I have yet to read. But that’s a good list for now, I think.
