New TV Shows // First Thoughts…

I mentioned the other day, that at the beginning (ish) of September, I showed you guys some of the new TV seasons that were coming out in the next month or so, and the ‘month or so’ has come and gone! So I thought I’d just give you an update of the eight shows that I was excited for. Four of them were returning shows, with new seasons, which I have already gone through, and four were new shows entirely. Today I’m just going to be going through the new TV shows that have come out in the past few weeks. Don’t worry, I won’t give away anything, and I’ll try not to go into any details.

 New TV Shows

The Originals

Release Date: October 3rd
Having loved The Vampire Diaries since it came out in 2009, I was so excited to hear they were making a spin off show for the Original vampires. Two episodes in now, and I have to say, I’m loving it just as much as I love Vamps. It follows the Original vampires down to the city they created 100 years ago: New Orleans. As Klaus (played by Joesph Morgan) attempts to get his city back from Marcel (played by Charles Michael Davis), a vampire which Klaus himself made back in the day, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) follows his brother to New Orleans in the hopes that he can steer Klaus in the right direction, while protecting werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and her baby. Rebecca (Claire Holt) also joins them, but only to get Elijah and leave again, leaving Klaus to his own ridiculous schemes.
Spin off shows are great, because they have the characters you already know and love (or hate), as well as an entire cast of new characters. Other than Originals and Hayley, all the other characters are new, and I’m excited to see what they are like and who I grow to like and who I will despise. It’s really great ‘learning’ about the Originals and their backgrounds. It makes their roles in Vampire Diaries make more sense, somehow. So far the story line is strong and I’m looking forward to where it goes. I wonder if it will have has many twists and turns as Vamps does…Hmmm…

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Release Date: October 10th
I love a good modern take on a fairy tale, so when I heard about this show coming out, I was really looking forward to it. I really enjoy Once Upon a Time, so to have a show similar to it (you know, ‘real’ world and then the fairy tale world, in this case Wonderland), but all based on one story, was definitely something that was not to be missed.
The first episode showed last week, and it was a good first episode. The story begins in a psych ward in Victorian England, and Alice (played by Sophie Lowe) is being interrogated by the mental institution people about her belief that she visited Wonderland, met the White Rabbit and a host of other people, and, most importantly, fell in love with a Genie. Of course no one believes her, and when she is just starting to doubt herself, Knave (Michael Socha) comes and rescues her from the ward and they travel back to Wonderland together. Now on the hunt for her love, whom she thought was dead, Alice and Knave traipse through Wonderland together, trying to avoid the Queen of Hearts. I’m hoping this show will be as good as Once Upon a Time, but only time will tell!

The Tomorrow People

Release Date: October 9th
Another superhuman/superhero/what-the-heck-is-up-with-your-genetic-structure kinda show, and I can’t tell yet whether it’s going to be awesome or not. The first episode was just last week, and while it was good enough, it wasn’t mind-blowingly awesome. The general idea is that Stephen (played by Robbie Amell) discovers that his crazy sleep walking is actually teleportation, and that is one of The Tomorrow People, a group of young people who can do three ‘t’s: teleportation, telepathy and telekinesis. He meets Cara (Peyton List) and John (Luke Mitchell), and they show him the underground lair (of course there’s an underground lair) where the Tomorrow People in that area meet and hang out.

Oh, and there’s a bad guy who also turns out to be Stephen’s uncle, Doctor Jedikiah Price (played by Mark Pellegrino, who you might recognise as Lucifer from Supernatural)…though not 100% sure he is actually the bad guy…so who knows where that’s going. I think I’ll continue to watch it, just to see where it’s headed, but will make my decisions about whether or not to bother with the rest of the season after a few more episodes I think.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Release Date: September 24th
Having finally got around to watching The Avengers just days before SHIELD came out, I was excited for this to start, and was impressed with the first few episodes. Although the first episode was very much ‘here are these characters, what they do and how they fit’, there was also a good deal amount of superhero action and explosions; things that are most certainly needed in an Avengers-like TV show.

Agent Coulson (who is played by Clark Gregg, and who ‘died’ in the Avengers movie) has put together a team within S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) and they are now working together to seek out and control any super-human/super-hero type people, the most recent recruit being Skye (played by Chloe Bennet), who I’m sure has some secret agenda. I do love the characters in this show, especially Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), the two nerds of the team, who provide of bit of comic relief. Only 3 episodes in and I’m really enjoying it. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

 

So there you have my thoughts on four new shows that have some out in the last few weeks. Perhaps I’ll give you an ‘it’s the end of the season!’ update when they have finished.
