I have way too many hobbies.
But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for another one (or two or three). My hobbies haven’t changed drastically over the years, although there are definitely things that I used to do more frequently than I do now. Perhaps some hobbies have pushed their way through to the front of the queue and are now a higher priority to me. Who knows? What I do know is that even though I have a bucket load of hobbies already, there are a few that I have always thought would be nice to take up, or at least have a go at (I’m probably bad at most of them but you don’t know till you try right?).
Pottery
I really want to try pottery-making one day. There’s a place nearby that runs night classes that I’d love to do one year. The downside of learning pottery skills is that everyone would be getting wonky vases and bumpy plates for Christmases and birthdays until I honed the skill. Did I say ‘downside’? I meant upside because they are all supportive of my newfound hobby.
Hand-lettering
I semi have started this hobby, although it’s very much me just playing around with these cool watercolour brush pens that I bought on a whim one day. My blogging friend Sophie over at Sofilly Letters creates the most beautiful hand-lettered quotes and I’m so jealous of her skills.
Woodwork
One of my favourite things we at school was the term we learnt woodworking. I still have a scar on my pinky where I accidentally sanded my finger on the sanding belt. I think I like the idea of taking a chunk of tree and creating something new from it. If I took this up instead of pottery, you can bet everyone would get wooden vases for Christmas. (Side note, I still have the wooden vase with glass cylinder inside it that I made when I was about 13.)
Take up another instrument
I’ve talked about this before, but I would love to take up another instrument. I currently mostly play piano and guitar, and can play the ukulele. I did drums and flute for a while in school but they never really took off.
Walking
This is ridiculous I know, but I just don’t like walking for exercise. I just get so bored. I’ve tried listening to audio-books, music, radio … still bored. I’m okay if I’m walking with someone and we’re chatting as we go, and I can walk for ages on the treadmill because I read a book, but by myself on the open footpath? No way. I struggle with it so much, but I would love to actually move passed that and become a walker (ha!). I hear it’s good for you.
What are some hobbies you’d like to take up or try some day?
