The Fruit Loop in Oregon

The Hood River Fruit Loop is a lot cooler than the cereal (and spelt differently, yes).

On the first Sunday I was in Oregon in October, my family took me out on the Hood River Fruit Loop (also known as the Oregon Fruit Loop), a fantastic route in the countryside with fruit stops along the way. I had never even heard of the Oregon Fruit Loop, but it was honestly one of the highlights of my entire fruit. The fall colours, the antique shops, the fruit and vegetable stalls … the fall colours! An absolute autumn lover’s dream!

What is the Hood River Fruit Loop?

The Hood River Fruit Loop is a collection of farm stands, wineries, berry farms, and flower farms, with an alpaca farm thrown in for good luck. The route is a long 35-mile drive, with all these stops dotted along the trail.

Everything about the trail was beautiful.

In the height of autumn, hues of orange, yellow and red fill the roadside attractions and make the drive itself right up there in beauty with the actual farms. Each place we stopped at was a little different, one of which was an antique store with absolutely crazy things for sale. From old magazines and posts to salt and pepper shakers, to record players, it had a little of everything.

My favourite thing about the Fruit Loop was all the pumpkins everywhere. In New Zealand, we don’t really do Halloween (although, granted it’s becoming more and more popular), nor do we decorate for the different seasons. Pumpkins are for eating (yum!) and that’s about it. But in America? Pumpkins everywhere! I.Love.It.

If you’re ever in Oregon (especially during autumn/fall!), then I highly recommend the Oregon Fruit Loop. It’s a beautiful drive, full of delicious fresh produce, cute hand-made items in stores, jams and pickles, and incredible pies. Well worth it.
