Need a quick and easy gift for a child? Want it to be home made? This is a great way to use up all that scrap paper you have too. Memory cards are great, and I know as a kid I sued to love playing this game. Not only is it fun (especially if you use super awesome paper) but it’s good for the mind. Bonus.

For this DIY, you’ll need card (I used black card) for the backing, pretty paper for the memory side (enough of each pattern/colour that you can make two cards), some sort of adhesive (I used double sided tape, but glue would be fine too), and something to decorate the ‘pack’ side of the card, if you want to. I used a strip of washi tape to make the pack sides a little more interesting.

If it helps, grab a card from another pack that you have and trace the size of it onto your card until you’ve filled up the page, or have as many cards as you want in your memory pack. Cut these all out. You now have a pack of blank cards. If you want to do something like washi tape them, now’s the time to do so. I did a simple stripe of washi tape, and tucked the ends onto the back of the card. Because we’re going to be sticking another piece of paper to them, you won’t see this.

Once your card is done, grab your pretty paper. I found it easiest to stick the cards to the pretty paper, and then cut around them, rather than cut out all the pretty paper in the same exact size and shape as the cards and then stick them together. The former way means you’ll get it exactly right, and there won’t be funny edges that don’t quite join properly.  After sticking your cards to the pretty paper, cut around them, and you’re done!

How easy was that?! The one thing I would want about though is when you’re choosing your paper, and sticking the card and the paper together, do make sure that the two cards in the pair look exactly the same. We don’t want to confuse the children!
