When it comes to creating content for your social media accounts, it can become a bit of a chore, there’s no doubt about that. But it doesn’t have to be. In this blog, post we’re going to check out some tips to help you with your content creation for social media.
But before we get into it, let’s start by saying content is key. Every social media platform works a little differently and has different audiences so creating the right content is one of the most important things you can do. Everything you create for your social media profiles shows a part of who you are, either as a person or as a business (or as a personal brand!).
In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at 6 tips for content creation for social media, and it’s good to remember that these are good pointers (if I do say so myself) no matter your niche or area of expertise. Let’s get into it!
6 top tips on content creation for Social Media
- Create a content calendar
- Get ideas from your audience
- Use tools to make your life easier
- Repurpose your content
- Don’t be afraid to start small
- Use your own voice
Create a content calendar
I can talk about this until the cows come home š but having a content calendar for your social media content is one of the best things you can do.
Having a content calendar helps you set goals and deadlines, organise your ideas and scheduled posts, and make sure that your social media content is aligned with your blog or your business.
Not sure how to create a social media content calendar? Grab my Digital Blog Planner below and use the Social Media tabs to plan out your content. It’ll be a lifesaver, trust me.
Get ideas from your audience
Dont’ know what to put into your social media calendar? Want to know what your audience is thinking? Ask them.
It’s that easy. You can get ideas by running a poll on Instagram or in your Facebook Group, asking questions, paying attention to what people are already engaging with on social media that you’re posting, or simply looking at what other people are writing about. See what other people in your niche are talking about and if it’s something that you think your audience would really resonate with, create a similar post.
Note: Never copy someone’s work. Never. Use other people’s posts for inspiration only.
Use tools to make your life easier
Much like having a content calendar or planner is going to help you organise and sort your ideas into social media posts, having good tools at your disposal is going to be a game-changer in content creation for social media.
Here are a couple of tools for social media that I recommend checking out:
- IQ Hashtags: This is an amazing tool for figuring out which hashtags to use on Instagram, and for tracking which ones are doing well on your account, and which you could swap out.
- CoSchedule: An all-in-one social media, Pinterest, LinkedIn and blog digital calendar. You can schedule all your content through CoSchedule, and link up to social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and more.
- Pinterest Keyword Vault: Creating for Pinterest? You need this tool. It’s hands down one of the best things I’ve got my hands on in the last year or so. It makes figuring out what keywords to use on Pinterest a breeze.
- Canva: You can use Canva for free, but the Pro version is 100% worth it. Canva makes creating content for social media super easy, and you can quickly resize one design into another if you’re cross-promoting.
- Creative Market: Whether you’re looking for fonts, graphics, photos templates or more, Creative Market has it.

Repurpose content
One of my favourite things to do is repurpose content, and that plays a big part in my content creation strategy.Ā Some may think it’s cheating. I think it’s working smarter not harder.
There are lots of ways to get more mileage out of one piece of content and itās not even difficultāso donāt worry about having to be a professional editor or graphic designer in order to execute this strategy well. The best way to repurpose content for social media is by taking what pieces you already have and reworking them for other platforms.
For example, a blog post like this has already been broken up in multiple points. Each of these points could create a new Instagram post. Or I could take the entire blog post and make a carousel on Instagram, using a simplified version of the content you’re reading here.
Don’t be afraid to start small
It can be overwhelming to think about creating a huge piece of content for a blog or a video, but itās important to remember that you donāt need to start with something that complex. Remember: itās better to start small and work your way up than not to start at all!
Start your content creation for social media with something simple: a single post on Instagram, a series of short Tweets, a couple of posts on your Facebook Page each week.
Making small, achievable goals like this will be a great starting point when it comes to creating content for your various online spaces.

Create a consistent voice throughout your content
The one thing that no other content creator, blogger, YouTube, or writer has that you do? You. You and your voice.
So we should be making the most of it.
When I was in high school my English said I wrote how I spoke and it wasn’t going to get me anywhere in the business sector. Jokes on her, I guess.
I think writing how you speak is one of the most important things you can do when it comes to writing and creating content, especially for social media. We want people to know who we are and the person they’re connecting with online. If I sound like every other person, or if I sound like a robot … they’re not going to love that.
Having said that, it’s okay if you’re a content creator for a corporate business. Or you’re working with a company that has a specific voice. Then you want to make sure you’re creating in the voice of the business.
Whatever you do (personal voice, or business voice), make sure your voice is consistent throughout your content.
