Pirates of the Caribbean meets The Mummy in Vengeance of the Pirate Queen, a beautifully designed standalone YA fantasy romance, set in the world of Tricia Levenseller's Daughter of the Pirate King. You can’t be afraid of the dark when you’re the monster lurking in the shadows.
As an assassin working for the pirate queen, eighteen-year-old Sorinda is surprised when Alosa’s next task for her is not to kill a new target, but to captain a handpicked crew on a rescue mission. Unfortunately, her sailing master is twenty-year-old Kearan. He may be the best helmsman the pirate queen has, but Sorinda finds him a real pain in the arse. Sadly, there are few places on a ship to hide from an attentive man.
As the crew of the Vengeance faces dangerous waters and deadly sea creatures, they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, a being who can control the dead. Their rescue mission quickly turns into a fight to save the world, but first, Sorinda must save herself from becoming an undead queen.

What is Vengeance of the Pirate Queen by Tricia Levenseller about?
Vengeance of the Pirate Queen by Tricia Levenseller is about Sorinda, an eighteen-year-old assassin in service to the pirate queen Alosa. Aloss gives Sorinda an unusual task: leading a crew on a rescue mission instead of eliminating a target.
The catch? Her sailing master is Kearan, a twenty-year-old helmsman known for his skills but a source of annoyance for Sorinda. As they navigate perilous waters, they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, turning their rescue mission into a battle to save the world. Yet, before Sorinda can focus on that, she must ensure she doesn’t become an undead queen herself.

My thoughts on Vengeance of the Pirate Queen
You know you’re in for a wild piratey ride when the character heading on the first page is “If you were looking for the opportune moment, that was it.” – Captain Jack Sparrow. And considering Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favourite movies (judge away, but don’t tell me you don’t love it too), this was a brilliant start.
I do have to tell you that I didn’t realise that this was technically the third book in the Daughter of the Pirate King series by Levenseller, the first two of which I enjoyed immensely. Vengeance of the Pirate Queen is set after the events in Daughter of the Siren Queen but rather than following Alosa, our fearless pirate Queen, we follow Sorinda, an assassin of Alosa’s into a new journey with new characters and challenges. It’s more of a stand-alone story in the world of the series. You can read this one without having read Daughter of the Pirate King series, but I think you’ll enjoy Vengeance more if you’ve read the others.
“We can’t change the fates of those who are gone. We can’t unmake decisions-our own, or others. All we can do is keep living, ourselves, and if you hate yourself, then live for others.”
As all her books are, Vengeance is a fast-paced story, with great characters and fun plot lines. Most of the story and the main oomph of the story did happen in the last section, so while it did clip along at a decent pace, it wasn’t quite as gripping as the other stories. While Sorinda and Kearan were fine characters, they were nothing on Alosa and Riden, in my opinion. Thankfully there are some cameos in the story!
I loved the pirate themes and ocean setting, and even though it wasn’t as good as her previous books in this series, I did enjoy this book.
Have you read Vengeance of the Pirate Queen? What did you think?
