If you’ve been blogging for a while, then you’ll know that there is always something else you could be doing. Perhaps it’s SEO. Pinterest. Instagram. Email. Updating old posts. Creating new freebies if that’s something you do.

It’s a lot.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, you start to wonder, “Am I even doing the right things anymore?”

Know what’s going to help? Getting laser-focused on what actually moves the needle, and letting the rest take a back seat for the moment. So, if you want your blog to grow in 2026 (without losing your mind), here are the five things to pour your energy into when the new year swings into action.

💡Note: Obviously, you can take and leave what does and doesn’t work for you. Perhaps your goals are different, or you’re not ready to focus on one of these things. That’s totally fine! These are just what I would be thinking about when it comes to blogging in 2026. And if you need help, remeber you can always join The Blogging Room for ongoing support!

5 Things Every Blogger Should Focus on in 2026

Consistency is important

There’s a member in The Blogging Room who joined us at a time in 2023 when she was only getting a handful of viewers on her blog posts. She had a great blog, but just no one was getting their eyeballs on it. And that’s discouraging.

But after a while, her traffic grew. A lot.

As you can see above, in just a year, she grew her blog sessions by 36,583%. What the heck! That’s absolutely crazy numbers.

But the three things she did?

  1. Joined The Blogging Room 😉
  2. Learn basic SEO
  3. Posted consistently

When her numbers were low, she wasn’t blogging that often. But when she got her blog to a place where she was consistently putting out new content (even if that was once a week), her numbers started to rise.

Getting your content out there on the regular is going to help you grow your blog in 2026.

SEO is still going strong

No, SEO isn’t dead. Google’s updates in the last couple of years have made one thing clear: quality content wins. That means writing with your reader in mind first, and search engines second.

Which, to be honest, was something you should have been doing before now anyway, but it’s just something to remember and reiterate in your own content in the coming years.

Remember to focus on things like:

  • Finding keywords your audience is actually searching for (not just the ones with high volume)
  • Writing detailed posts that answer real questions
  • Updating your older content if it makes sense to do so
  • Remembering back-end SEO things like backlinks, site speed, unbroken links etc

SEO is the long game, but it’s also the most reliable way to build traffic that is sustainable and actually keeps your blog afloat. Future-you will be very thankful you started caring about it now!

Post quality content that connects

While being consistent is important, that doesn’t mean that you have to churn out dozens of blog posts every month. Quality is better than quantity (even if quantity is good too. We just want to make sure we’re not sacrificing the quality of our blog posts just to have sheer numbers of them).

Ask yourself: Does this post genuinely solve a problem or answer a question?

Your readers don’t want perfection; they want connection. That means:

  • Writing like you’re chatting with a friend (not like a robot)
  • Adding your stories and experiences if they suit and fit well
  • Giving value that makes people think, “Wow, I needed this”
  • Talking about those things that people are actually searching for

By having a blog it often means that you’re building those connections, even if you don’t realise it. If you’re looking for community or monetising your blog through services and products, then quality blog posts are going to help you build both those things.

  1. Those wanting to connect with you will keep coming back if your blog posts are 🔥
  2. Those thinking about buying will see your expertise and knowledge, trust you, and make a purchase

Diversify your traffic (but do it smartly)

With so many updates from Google over the past few years, it can be too easy to see huge dips in traffic over the course of even just one year. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be focused on making sure Google is showing your content to potential readers … it just means it’s a good idea to focus on diversifying where your traffic is coming from.

Think about learning and using a new platform in 2026. Perhaps that’s:

  • Pinterest: Another search engine, but a visual one. Pinterest is great for a lot of bloggers, if not all of them.
  • Social media: While fickle, we can still use social media to connect with our readers, send people to specific blog posts, and sell products
  • Email marketing: I recommend that every blogger have a mailing list, even if you’ve never had one before. You own it, and it’s a great way to connect with your readers.

If focusing on this in 2026 is something you’re aiming to do, experiment. Give things a go, but don’t overcomplicate it. Keep it simple. See what works with your blog and your daily life, too.  Simplify your strategy and stay consistent with the things that work.

Community and accountability matter more than ever

In a world that’s full of noise, and a lot of people making that noise, it can be easy to hide away in our little isolated blogging bubbles. You’re sitting behind a screen, trying to figure out if your latest post is any good, and wondering if anyone’s even reading it.

Having people who get it changes everything.

When you’re part of a community, you have people cheering you on, reminding you of your goals, and helping you stay consistent even when motivation dips. Accountability isn’t just nice to have … it’s often the difference between giving up and growing.

If you’ve been trying to do this blogging thing alone, maybe 2026 is the year to stop.

The bottom line

You don’t have to do everything to grow your blog. You just have to do some things really well, and do them consistently, intentionally, and with support.

If you’re a blogger and you want to focus on some things in 2026, try:

  • Showing up regularly
  • Writing for your reader
  • Investing in SEO (whatever that looks like for you)
  • Diversifying your traffic
  • Surrounding yourself with community

The rest? It can wait.
