I was actually going to write this post a long while ago…more like July. It makes sense to have an update on a yearly challenge in the middle of the year…right? Right. Fail on my part. Apologies. On the plus side, there are more books from the Good Reads Challenge to talk about, because I would have read more now than I would have back in July. Bonus. I thought I’d just update you on my Good Reads Challenge, because I know I like seeing what other people have been reading, and have been enjoying…so I hope at least one person out there will enjoy this.

In case you’re unaware, each year on Good Reads you can opt in to take part in the year-long reading challenge. Basically you just pick a number of books that you will challenge yourself to read throughout the year, and you just update your books on Good Reads, like you normally would, when you finished reading them. Last year I challenged myself to read 40 books, and was finished around November, I think. This year, I thought I’d bump it up to 45, and I’ve already read 32 so far. I think I’ll make it.

Rather than list all the books I’ve read (that would be boring and you can just go and check out my challenge yourself, if you’re interested), I thought I’d share a few of my favourites so far. I‘ve actually only read two books that was worthy of 5 stars this year, but I have a lot of 4 stars. I’ve also read a lot of books from Net Galley this year (you can read my post about Net Galley here). Last year I think I only did one or two, but the more books you are approved for and the more you review on Net Galley, the more likely you are to get approvals from publishers. I digress. Here are some of my favourites this year, with links to their reviews, if there is one.

Top three NetGalley Books

Sidekick, by Auralee Wallace

Talented, by Sophie Davis

The Game, by Terry Schott

Top three YA Books

Paper Towns, by John Green

Eleanor and Park, by Rainbow Rowell

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky

Top Three Other Books

The Magicians, by Lev Grossman

Shift, Em Bailey

The Peculiars, by Maureen Dyle McQuerry

Of course I haven’t finished the challenge yet, and there will be more books that I haven’t enjoyed by the end of the year…hopefully. I also hope I read a few more 5 star books, as only a couple in a year isn’t really that fantastic. There will be an update when I’ve completed the challenge, later in the year, but for now, perhaps you’ve read a title that has jumped out at you. If you read it, do be sure to come back and tell me what you thought of it.

Or if you’ve read any of these already…what did you think? What’s been your favourite read this year so far?
