For the second guest post of this week, I have the lovely Ria from Thoroughly Modern Millennial here to talk travel! Which, as you all know, is one of my favourite things! She’s combining travel with one of my other favourite things – books! So here we are! Welcome Ria!

Literary Travel Bucket List

Hello! I’m Ria and you’ll usually find me rambling/blogging at Thoroughly Modern Millennial or reviewing books at Blogger’s Bookshelf with Anjali.

One of the things I really love about Anjali’s blog is all of her wonderful travel posts. And seeing as she’s off travelling once again I thought I’d indulge in a post that covers both travelling and something else I love….BOOKS! So I present to you my top 5 places on my Literary Travel Bucket List…

Chatsworth House & Grounds, Derbyshire

In the English countryside is a place which inspired the gigantic estate owned my the dashing Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, it’s has been passed down this line since the 16th Century. Not only is the house just stunning, but the surrounding areas look breathtaking and would be the perfect place for a day-trip!

The Vondelpark, Amsterdam

I’m a big fan of John Green – what! gasp! really!…:P – and The Fault In Our Stars is one of my favourite books of all time. Gus and Hazel visit Amsterdam in the novel and the book has one of my favourite descriptions of the city “Some tourist think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin.”
We’ve done the majority of the tourist spots last time I visited, but we never got to go to the Vondelpark. I can imagine this place to look amazing the Autumn, just as all the leaves are falling.

The Venice Rialto, Italy

Shakespeare’s works are set in some incredibly beautiful places but the Rialto’s plays a role in one of my favourite Shakespeare plays The Merchant of Venice. Like Amsterdam. I’ve visited Venice before when I was very young, but I’d love to go back to really admire the classical architecture and actually get a chance to ride on a Gondolla for myself.

New York City, USA

Ok this kinda covers a lot of books but there are three places in the city I want to pinpoint in particular. The first is Central Park in light of reading Catcher in the Rye this past year, to imagine Holden seeing his little sister on that carousel. The next is the streets of Greenwich Village and ponder how the city changed Esther Greenwood (and to an extent Plath). And finally the fashion district from The Devil Wears Prada…for obvious reasons. Hopefully, I won’t bump into Miranda Priestly though!

Shakespeare & Company Bookstore, Paris

This is one may not be from a book but since I first spotted a photo set with images of this amazingly awesome bookshop I knew I had to visit it one day. Just look at all of those books piled high right up to the ceiling! Bookworm heaven!Hope you all enjoyed that! Wasn’t this great!? I love that she’s joined books and travel! I haven’t been to any of these places, and even though I was in Amsterdam, I didn’t go to the Vondelpark. I would love to go to all these other places – especially New York! Thank you, Ria, for guest posting!
