That’s right: I had a date with London. On Valentines Day.
We got up at stupid o’clock and drove 2.5 hours to London. The first time I went to London, last year, we did the ‘normal’ things like saw the Tower of London, and the Eye (though didn’t go into either, coz they are a bit too expensive for our whole family…one day though, I want to do them properly), we saw Buckingham Palace and the guards, we walked past Big Ben, and up to Trafalgar Square. We took the tube a lot, and also (perhaps the best thing ever that day) walked across the pedestrian crossing at Abbey Road. Yay!
My second trip to London was later last year when my dad had to go for a meeting or something, and I saw a friend from New Zealand who lives in London now. That was day my camera lens broke and I broke with it. It was a depressing day. But on that day, Dad and I went to the Victoria and Albert Museum and had a good look around. It was actually really good because it was late afternoon when we went, and there were hardly any people around.
Yesterday though, we drove into Kensington and parked the car (see first photo there. It seemed legit…? *she says sarcastically*), and went to the V&A again. After a lunch at the foot of the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park we went to the Natural History Museum.
This first group of pictures are pictures of the V&A (and some funny kiddy gloves sitting on a fence! HA!), and then having lunch at the Albert Memorial. We also walked past the Royal School of Music, which was a little bit exciting. It may or may not be the one I’m actually a graduate of. Well, that’s what we think anyway. I went up to grade 3 piano with the Royal School of Music, and it’s in London…so we just assumed that that was it. It may not have been. I got a picture with it just in case. I hated having piano lessons. I quit after grade 3. But I still play…more than I ever did back then. I learn best my myself I think. Anyway! Moving on…

After lunch we went and queued for only 12 minutes (I was timing) to get into the National History Museum. It wasn’t as cool as I thought it was going to be. Dad said it was like going to a dead zoo. Which is what it was like really. But they had some cool things like dinosaurs skeletons and huge creatures that may or may not actually exist. It was quite similar in layout and design actually to the Chicago Natural History Museum, which we went to in 2010 when we visited family over there. There were some lovely animals though – stuffed of course – like the polar bear, and these funny deer things that I didn’t actually read the label of.

And then it took us 3 hours to get home, because of the traffic going out of London. We tried to time it so it wouldn’t be rush hour…somehow that failed. But it was a good day, and Kensington is a really pretty part of London.
You can see more pictures on my Facebook photography page too.
Have you been to either of these Museums? What did you think?
