Because Sunday is usually Sunday Song day (except for last week), I thought we could combine the two together: Books and Music.

When I was younger I used to be able to listen to music, sing along to it, and read a book all at the same time. And while I occasionally have background music on while I’m reading, there’s no way I could sing along and still know what’s going on in my book. However, I know a lot of people can read a book and listen to music at the same time, which is awesome.

Occasionally I find that there are some songs that somehow coincide exactly with whatever book I’m reading at the time, or that, perhaps after I’ve finished a book, there are songs that remind me of the story line, or the characters or something in the book. It’s amazing how music can do that. You guys will know that, as well as writing for this blog, I also write fortnightly for Blogger’s Bookshelf. Go on over and check it out. One of the co-founders of BB is Ria, and she blogs over at Thoroughly Modern Millennial. One of the things I love about her fortnightly reviews is that at the bottom of each review she lists some soundtrack tracks that could be listened to alongside the reading of the book. I really love how she does this, and it always makes me think about what sorts of music would go with, or match, if you like, the books I listen to.

Perhaps when you’re reading your next novel, think about the music that might go well with it. Pretend like the book is going to be made into a movie; what music would be the theme song? What about the song playing when the two love interests get together? If you made the book into a movie, what songs would you choose?

Actually, let me know! I’m going to post about books to movies a bit later on, but for now, what’s your favourite book? Has it been made into a movie? Did they choose the right music? What would you have changed?
