Saturday 9th of May saw Roz and I heading into Aotea Centre, ASB Theatre here in Auckland to see An Evening with Noel Fielding. If you don’t know who that is, he’s Richmond in the British show, The I.T.Crowd…or more commonly known from The Mighty Boosh. Roz and thought it would be good fun to go and hear him, and I hadn’t been to a comedy show before, so it was  a great time to go. We really went because we love The I.T Crowd, though I have seen the first season of The Mighty Boosh, and he’s the only part of it that I think is funny.

But it was really good! We had quite central seats, at the back of the lower level (there are three: floor, lower and upper), and we were surrounded by geeks and lovers of The Mighty Boosh, which, of course, made the experience even more fun.

I didn’t really know what to expect at all, other than from what I’d seen on the Mighty Boosh; I hadn’t seen any of his stand up before online or anything, so it was kind of fun going to it with no expectations. It turns out it was pretty much exactly the same as the Mighty Boosh, the Moon was even present. He had a couple of other people who were on stage with him too,  and I discovered that he’s a very visual comedian. He had props galore, and a screen behind him that was Plasticine Land, and when they walked through a door, they turned into Plasticine versions of themselves. Kind of. Anyway…

I don’t think I’d go and hear him again if he came back, but it was definitely a fun night!I most enjoyed when he played a cop looking for the culprit who had ‘kidnapped Noel’, and he went down into the audience (thank goodness we were up on the second floor!) and just talked at and to people in the crowd. His improv was very good, and people’s reactions to him talking to them, and what they said back was hilarious.

What about you? Have you heard Noel Fielding live?
Like the Mighty Boosh? The I.T.Crowd?
