Book Haul #38

The first weekend of November each year means that here in Auckland the ASB Stadium holds it’s annual 24 Hour Book Sale.

From 10am on Saturday morning, the book sale is open until 2am Sunday morning (yes, in the middle of the night). It reopens at 10am on Sunday, and finally shuts for another year at 2pm, Sunday. 24 hours of book buying wonders. This is now the third year I’ve been, and while my hauls have been progressively getting smaller, it’s still the greatest weekend of the year. Unlike my first year when I bought 43 books, and last year, when I bought 38, this year’s haul was only about 20 books. I put it down to the fact that there weren’t many books that I wanted to read, and those that I did pick up, I already had. It’s a miracle I found as many as I did really.

Looking for Alaska, by John Green

While I actually already have this book, I have it in hard cover and to be honest I just don’t like the cover. This one, while not quite matching with my others, is far more similar to the rest of the copies of his books I have, so it’s purely an aesthetic reason that I bought this. Oh the shame.

We All Looked Up, by Tommy Wallach

I’ve been meaning to read this, so was super excited when I found it! There weren’t many YA or teen novels around, so I picked up all of them when I came acorss them. looking forward to reading this one!

 

The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared, by Jonas Jonasson

I do have this book on my Kindle already, but I know that I’m more likely to read it if it’s in a physical copy. I’ve heard so many great things about this book, and even bought his other book, The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden, in a previous haul.

Hallowed, by Cynthia Hand

It was only a few hauls ago (is it sad when you start using your book hauls as a way to measure time?) that I bought Unearthly by Cynthia Hand, the first in this series. While I haven’t read it them yet, I thought I’d pick up this sequel.

Girl Online, by Zoe Sugg

I was always a little cautious about buying or reading Girl Online when the world was told that vlogger Zoe Sugg actually used a ghost writer for it. But you know what? A story is a story, and I want to give this one a go. Apparently Zoe is writing the sequel without a ghost writer, so it’ll be interesting to read the two and see if they’re different in tone, in style etc etc. Have you read Girl Online?
