Five strangers. Countless adventures. One epic way to get lost.

Four teens across the country have only one thing in common: a girl named Leila. She crashes into their lives in her absurdly red car at the moment they need someone the most.

Hudson, Bree, Elliot and Sonia find a friend in Leila. And when Leila leaves them, their lives are forever changed. But it is during Leila's own 4,268-mile journey that she discovers the most important truth—sometimes, what you need most is right where you started. And maybe the only way to find what you're looking for is to get lost along the way.

What is Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid about?

While it’s been called a road-trip book, Let’s Get Lost, by Adi Alsaid, is not your typical road trip. Leila has headed up the country to Alaska to check out the Northern Lights. On the way, she meets 4 other teenagers and hangs out with them for a bit before heading on her way.

“Funny, how it took a little bit of pain to remember that certain parts of yourself were alive.”

The first four sections are from the other character’s perspectives.

Hudson is about to head off for a Scholarship interview to become a Doctor; Bree is a care-free soul who has run away from home; Elliott just wants to get the girl, like in the 80s movies that he loves; and Sonia is a mess in the relationship department, and needs help illegally getting into Canada.

Leila runs through their lives and changes them in some way, as she road trips by herself through different states. The last chapter is Leila. In there you discover why she’s road-tripping, and the events in her past that have led her to this point.

My thoughts on Let’s Get Lost

After reading through a few reviews of Let’s Get Lost from friends and seeing how many stars they gave it (and, of course, checking out the ever-faithful Goodreads), I decided I needed to read this book. And it did not disappoint.

“People hurt each other. It happens to everyone. Intentionally, unintentionally, regretfully or not. It’s a part of what we do as people. The beauty is that we have the ability to heal and forgive.”

It’s a really amazing story, and while it’s not your typical road trip story like I said, I really enjoyed Alsaid’s different spin on road tripping. It was really refreshing to not know everything about the ‘main’ character until right at the end. Each section of the book revealed a little something more about who Leila was and what she was really doing. It was focused more on the lives that she touched as she journeyed than about her, and that was fantastic to read.

While it was different to a lot of the books I’ve been reading lately, it was still full of love, loss, laughter, teenage angst and drama, weddings and adventures. If you’re after a great, refreshing read, do grab a copy of this book. It will be one I’ll be reading again sometime.
