Whether or not you believe in fate, or luck, or love at first sight, every romance has to start somewhere. MEET CUTE is an anthology of original short stories featuring tales of "how they first met" from some of today’s most popular YA authors.
This incredibly talented group of authors brings us a collection of stories that are at turns romantic and witty, epic and everyday, heartbreaking and real.

What is Meet Cute about?
Meet Cute is a short story collection from a million authors (okay, 14 authors), most of whom write in the Young Adult genre. Meet Cute was Sophie’s choice for our Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club for June and it was such a great pick. This was a really sweet book to read and having it as a BB book club choice meant it was bumped up my To Be Read list. Always a good thing.
Each short story in this book is written by a different author, and tells the stories of characters’ ‘meet cutes’.
‘a meet cute is a scene in which a future romantic couple meets for the first time’ – Wikipedia
Think of scenes in movies like When Harry met Sally, Singing in the Rain, Notting Hill, or more modern films like 27 Dresses, the 2015 Cinderella, and even The Fault in Our Stars. Well, that’s what this book is about: people meeting for the first time.
My thoughts on Meet Cute
I really enjoyed this anthology of short stories, though there were several stories within which I just couldn’t get into (as is quite common with collections like this – you’re never going to enjoy all of them), so much so that I super skimmed them to finish them. Eek. Bad I know, but that’s what it is.
My favourites though were super cute and I would like the authors to continue on and create novels, please and thank you. If you’re thinking about picking up Meet Cute, then here are a few of my faves:
Click, by Katharine McGee
This is the story of a girl going on a ‘Click’ first date, which is like the story’s online dating app. After a few things happen, she realises she’s left her phone in the taxi, and the story follows them as they hunt all over the city trying to find it.
Oomph, by Emery Lord
Cas is in line at airport security when she gets talking to a girl. They introduce themselves as Marvel Agents and then hang out in the airport until their flights leave.
The Dictionary of You and Me, by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Moss works in a library, and she frequently has to ring up a Mr. H. Smith to remind him that the dictionary he borrowed is way overdue. One day Moss meets the book-stealer, and it’s definitely not who she expected.
The Unlikely Likelihood of Falling in Love, by Joselyn Davies
Sam spots a boy on the train one day, but the train he’s on is headed in a different direction to the one she’s on. She turns the exchange into her maths project and tries to work out the likelihood that she will see him again.
Really cute stories, and would definitely recommend them. Check out our Blogger’s Bookshelf roundup of Meet Cute.
