This is one of the neatest baby/toddler books I’ve seen in ages. Not that I usually receive or buy baby books, but I have enough friends with small children to know a little bit about the books that are out there for babies, toddlers and children. I’m one of those aunties who buys kids books on nearly every visit. Their parents need to get more bookshelves to stock them all.

While I don’t have kids of my own, nor do I usually pick up board books, I loved Mihi. The images are stunning and each page simple yet educational. I already have a friend who I’m going to pass this book on to; I know they’ll love it for their kid!

Mihi by Gavin Bishop has just been released here in New Zealand, and you’ll be able to find it in the kids’ section of most good bookstores. In fact, you should probably pick up a bunch of them and just give them to everyone you know who is having a baby in the next year, or who has small children. Mihi is a fantastic way to not only get your kids learning about where they come from and who they are, but it also encourages the learning of Māori words from a young age. Something I definitely wish I had more of growing up!
