May the 4th Be With You! How to celebrate Star Wars day in 2025

If you’re anything like me, then celebrating Star Wars Day (May the 4th) each year is a must, not a maybe.

Ever since my dad introduced me to the original trilogy when I was about 8 years old, I have loved the franchise. While the newer movies are enjoyable (don’t even get me started on the prequels, though), the original three movies are pure gold and I’m sure I don’t have to convince you otherwise.

While usually, Star Wars Day events flood many countries, this year, like last, might be a little different. If you can’t make it to a Star Wars Day event this year, or your usual plans have been thwarted by a certain pandemic, you can still celebrate in the comfort of your own home.

Celebrate Star Wars Day with a movie marathon

It would be wrong to not start this list with the obvious. But which marathon should you have?

  1. The OG Trilogy – my top pick every time would be the original trilogy. A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are some of the greatest SciFi movies, and a classic rewatch is a brilliant way to celebrate
  2. The Prequels – Of course, if you do love a bit of JarJar Binks, you could throw it back to the late 90s, early 2000s when the prequels were made and watched Episodes 1 – 3: Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.
  3. The Sequels – Despite them not being as good as the original (what movies are? – no seriously. Are there movies that have better sequels than their predecessors? Let me know in the comments!), I did quite enjoy them. You could scrap the ‘old’ movies and just stick to a Star Wars movie marathon from episodes 5 – 7, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
  4. The Standalones – While I love a good trilogy, I think they actually did a good job on some of the standalone. Rogue One was enjoyable, and Solo was decent. But there are only two at the moment, so could you really call it a ‘marathon’? You could remedy it and throw in the animated movie, The Clone Wars movie.
  5. The Shows – If you’re one for TV shows, you could tackle Droids, Ewoks, The Clone Wars, Rebels, or Resistance (all animated series), or rewatch The Mandalorian.

If you’re a big fan, then you’ll know that there are also a long series of Star Wars books. If you can’t get to your local library, try borrowing them online (check out OverDrive to see if you’re library has eBooks available), or buy them online, or investigate whether your local bookstore delivers.
