I can barely contain my excitement. Right now you shouldn’t be reading my blog. You should be getting super excited like I am about tonight’s special episode of Doctor Who. You may ask why I am typing and not hyperventilating with excitement right now. Oh the wonders of scheduling posts. In preparation for tonight’s episode, I have been re watching all the episodes from the 2005 Doctor Who, and hopefully by the time you read this, and by the time I am sitting on my sofa bursting with excitement, I shall have achieved just that. I can say now that I feel like I will make it. Just in the nick of time (no pun intended).

So, in celebration of tonight’s episode, I have decided to share with you my favourite episodes from seasons 1-7. Sound like fun? I think so.

Season 1 :: Episode 12 :: Bad Wolf

Right near the end of the season, I love this episode. Perhaps it’s because it’s about game shows (and I love watching a bit of Deal or No Deal, can’t lie), or perhaps it’s because it’s got the wonderful, sexy, Captain Jack Harkness in it. I’m not sure, but I really love this episode.

Favourite quote – Captain Jack: “Do I look like an ‘out of bounds’ sort of guy?”

Honourable mention: Episode 3 – The Unquiet Dead. I really enjoy the episodes where they go back in time to meet famous people, and in this case, Charles Dickens.

Season 2 :: Episode 4 :: The Girl in the Fireplace

Oh Madame De Pompadour. Seriously, how cool is she? I just really love her character, and also, how creepy are those masks!? It’s just such a sweet episode, despite, you know, creepy robot alien things. But it’s pretty, and sad, and cute, and depressing all at once. And that’s wonderful.

Favourite quote – Madame De Pompdore: “There comes a time, Timelord, when every lonely little boy must learn how to dance!”

Honourable mention: Episode 13 – Doomsday. That scene at the end, on the beach! Oh.my.goodness. So sad.

Season 3 :: Episode 10 :: Blink

The Weeping Angels are the most terryfing creature for me in Doctor Who. I don’t think the Daleks or the Cybermen are scary at all. But the Angels. My.Goodness. The worst things ever. But for some reason this is one of my favourite episodes in the third season, which is odd, becuase it’s the episode that the Doctor is in the least. He’s barely in it at all really. Just Carey Mulligan’s character, Sally Sparrow.

Favourite quote – Larry Nightengale: “‘The angels have the phonebox’, that’s my favourite, I’ve got that on a T-shirt.”

Honourable mention: Episode 2 – The Shakespeare Code. Another one where they meet famous people. I also like episode 11, Utopia.

Season 4 :: Episodes 8 & 9 :: Silence in the Library & Forest of the Dead

I loved these episodes. A lot. River Song is introduced in episode 8, and of course, we (I’m speaking for everyone here), immediately love her. Of course, she dies at the end- sort of –  (sorry…spoilers), and life is all very confusing. But I think what I like most about these episodes is that fact that there’s an entire planet that is a library. An.Entire.Planet. That is my kind of planet, right there.

Favourite quote – The Doctor: “No, I never land on Sundays. Sundays are boring.”

Honourable mention: Episode 13 – Journey’s End. I just love how in this episode all the companions are together. Even Ianto Jones and Gwen Cooper from Torchwood feature. And that’s awesome.

Season 5 :: Episode 11 :: The Lodger

Although I like many episodes in this season, I love this one. I just love how the Doctor tries to be a normal human being, but fails drastically at it. Oh, and also, Craig Owens (played by James Corden) is an awesome character.

Favourite quote – The Doctor: “No, I’ll fix it, I’m good at fixing rot. Call me the Rotmeister. No, I’m the Doctor, don’t call me the Rotmeister.”

Honourable mention: Episode 10 – Vincent and the Doctor. This is also one of my favourites in season 5. In fact, it’s quite hard to pick between the two.

Season 6 ::  Episode 4 :: The Doctor’s Wife

What I love about this episode is that the TARDIS comes alive. I mean, she’s always really been alive, that’s the point, but she is suddenly put into a human form, and she is actually how you expect the TARDIS to be – crazy, fast speaking, witty, humorous, and clever. Also, I like how they make a TARDIS from the scraps around them. That’s ingenious.

Favourite quote – The Doctor: “I’m a madman with a box, without a box.”

Honourable mention: Episode 13 – The Wedding of River Song. Seriously, this is a good episode. Every time I watch it I cry at River’s speech near the end – so beautiful – and the whole episode is a great way to wrap up the season.

Season 7 Part 1 – Episode 5 :: The Angels Take Manhattan

I both love and hate this episode. I absolutely hate it because, well, Amy and Rory disappear. I like to think they don’t actually die, but I guess they really do, after spending their lives together at least. Which is why I love it. I love how much they love each other, and the beautiful end chapter in the book that the Doctor reads at the end. This episode rips me apart every time, and I always end up balling my eyes out, even though I know exactly what is coming.

Favourite quote – Amy Pond: “There’s a little girl waiting in a garden. She’s going to wait a long while, so she’s going to need a lot of hope. Go to her. Tell her a story. Tell her that if she’s patient, the days are coming that she’ll never forget. Tell her she’ll go to sea and fight pirates. She’ll fall in love with a man who’ll wait two-thousand years to keep her safe. Tell her she’ll give hope to the greatest painter who ever lived and save a whale in outer space. Tell her this is the story of Amelia Pond. And this is how it ends.”

Honourable mention: Episode 2 -Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. I don’t think I have to say anything more on this. It’s about dinosaurs…on a spaceship!

Season 7 Part 2 :: Episode 14 :: The Name of the Doctor

I have to do a part two for season 7, because it’s an odd season. We lose Amy and Rory in episode 5, have the Christmas episode, which leads into the arrival of the new companion, Clara: the Impossible Girl. I remember watching for the first time, only months ago – it seems like years – and the end was so exciting and unexpected and everyone was thinking ‘what the heck is going on? Why is John Hurt the Doctor?!’. And this is the episode that leads into tonight’s 50th anneversary episode, if you don’t count the little mini episode that is on the BBC website, if anyone wants to watch it (you all should. Go and do it now). I also like how Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax are in it. Oh and River. Can’t forget River Song.

Favourite quote –
The Doctor: Where are they?
Clara: At the cinema.
The Doctor: The little…Daleks.

 Honourable mention: Episode 7 – The Bells of Saint John. The episode when Clara is reintroduced really, but not knowing that the Doctor has met her before, several times.

So there we have it folks! My favourite episodes from all 7 seasons. I’m so looking forward to tonight’s episode, which, if you’re reading this at the moment it was scheduled, then it starts in 50 minutes. Oh.my.goodness. 50 minutes.

Why are you still here!? GO GO GO! Take that remote off your family members, kick them out of the room if need be. It’s time for the episode we’ve been waiting nearly all year for. It’s Doctor Who time.
