Not gonna lie, I had no idea that a) there was a chocolate shop at the top of Jungfrau Mountain and b) it was something I should be looking forward to when I booked my Contiki. But the Lindt Shop at Jungfraujoch is Europe’s highest chocolate shop and it was an absolutely brilliant surprise when we explored the mountain.
It was just the second stop on a huge trip around Europe, but Switzerland was immediately at the top of my list of faves and didn’t really move from that top spot. We stayed in Lauterbrunnen, and spent a morning up the mountain, walking through icey caves, throwing snowballs, and, as it happened, eating chocolate.
The Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven at Jungfraujoch is the highest Lindt shop in the world, and it’s more than just a place to grab some chocolate. You get to dive into the chocolate-making process, watch a virtual Lindt Maître Chocolatier at work, and even try out a chocolate mixing machine for yourself (although we didn’t).
We wandered around the Lindt ball tubs, picking up interesting flavours that we’d never seen before, chose some bars, too, and filled a bag with chocolate before we headed back down the mountain.
Europe’s Highest Chocolate Shop at Jungfraujoch is open year-round and lines up with the operating times of the Jungfraujoch railway. The shop typically operates daily from 10am to 4pm when the railway is, which means there’s a good chance it’ll be open if you’re visiting the top of the mountain.
I didn’t realise it at the time, but there’s actually a new Lindt store that’s been set up here in Auckland, so I must go and check that out sometime.
Have you been to a Lindt store like this before? Or maybe you’ve been to Europe’s Highest Chocolate Shop? I’d love to know! Drop a comment below and let’s chat about it.
