What is a Huffledor-Gryffinpuff you ask?

Being a huge Harry Potter fan, and being a part of the Harry Potter Generation, means I needed to know what Harry Potter house I was in.

I often did online ‘what house are you in’ quizzes and I always got a different answer. Always. It was Gryffindor on one site, Hufflepuff on another, and Ravenclaw on others still. And while I never got put into Slyerthin, it wouldn’t have surprised me if it popped up one time. The most common two were Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, and while growing up I always considered myself a Gryffindor, I could see why Hufflepuff was also suited to me.

When Pottermore exploded into the world with great applause and excitement from fans, I knew that this was the test that I could do that would be the most legit, the most accurate and the most worthy of my time. Once I was put into a house on Pottermore, that would be the true house for me.

Except it wasn’t.

I remember signing up to Pottermore as soon as I could and being super excited that I would finally discover what my true house was. I was put into Hufflepuff. At first, I was a little outraged and annoyed; I was a Gryffindor! But after a little while and after re-reading the sorting hat song in The Philosopher’s Stone, I accepted the fact that actually, Hufflepuffs are pretty amazing! I had settled into my new house nicely, loving the fact that yellow and black were not only the house colours but the colours of the rugby team I supported back home. Perfect.

But then I forgot my password, and I was using a different email address, and it all went to custard. So I had to re-signup for it and be sorted again.

‘No worries’, I thought. ‘I’ll be in Hufflepuff again’.

But, my friends, I wasn’t. I was sorted in Gryffindor and I had an identity crisis. Was I in Gryffindor, the house I always thought I belonged in growing up? Or was I in Hufflepuff, the original house I was sorted into? Big life questions, right there. So I decided I had to simply choose for myself which one actually suited me more.

This is what the sorting hat says in the songs it sings in 3 of the books:

As you can see, ‘bravery’ is one of the key traits of a Gryffindor. This is where I fall short, you see. I think I’m brave…but I’m not that brave. I would do something like bridge swing, possibly even Bungy jump (at a push…no pun intended), but I don’t think I’d volunteer to battle dark witches and wizards. Ya know? Brave…to a point.

But the traits of Hufflepuff are hard-working and patient; two things that I’m not. I don’t work very hard at all really; it’s a surprise I managed to get a degree. And I’m the least patient person I know. That’s why I couldn’t be a teacher…no patience.

But I like to think I’m brave enough for Gryffindor, and I like to think I’m like some of the Gryffindors in the Harry Potter series. And I like to think I’m just and loyal, as per the characteristics of Hufflepuff, and treat everyone the same. So I’m neither, but I’m both. So I’ve created my own house.

May I present to you, dear people of the internet:

What is a Huffledor-Gryffinpuff?

Huffledor-Gryffinpuff is both Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Huffledor-Gryffinpuff is a combination of two Hogwarts Houses from Harry Potter, merged together to create a house for those who feel like they belong in both. Or for those who don’t fit into any house at all, and need somewhere to be. See more below!

What are Huffledor-Gryffinpuffs like?

We would have the best of both Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, and try to ignore the fact that we are probably all impatient and a bit scared. But Huffledor-Gryffinpuff would be the friendliest, the most chilled house; our ghost would be a relaxed guy or gal with a severed limb (just to keep in character with Gryffindor’s Nearly Headless Nick) who probably ate too much and stayed near the kitchens. Our common room would be mostly shades of yellow or gold with a hint of red and black thrown in for good luck.

We would still have awesome people like Tonks (Hufflepuff) and Ron (Gryffindor) while having our own amazing people that none of the other houses could have (ah, me. Oh, and you). We would help out in battles but perhaps let the stronger fighters take charge, follow their lead, Our founder would have been relaxed about everything but also would have encouraged their students to be strong and stand up for others. It would be the house that everyone who didn’t want to be put in a box would be…and, of course, the Huffledor-Gryffinpuffs would have the best animal: some sort of hybrid/multi-species/amazing magical beast.

Am I a Huffledor-Gryffinpuff?

Remember, when you’ve been sorted into a house you didn’t expect, or you’ve been sorted into all of them at once, there’s a place for you here in Huffledor-Gryffinpuff …and if you’re not sure you even fit in here, then I’m sure I can speak to someone and have the Slytherclaw-Ravenrin house established. I got your back.

What Hogwarts house are you in? Or do you think in a combo house like Huffledor-Gryffinpuff?
