Last week, if you cast your minds back to a past post, I was taking part in the Make Me Read It Readathon. In short, the idea is that you choose some of the books you have had for a while but you haven’t read yet and feel like you really must, and then you put it to the people – which of these books should I aim to read in a week.
If you think you can read 5 books in a week, then you’d pick 7 or 8 for people to vote on, and then you’d read the tops 5 from the results. I love this idea – I have so many books that I have bought and have really wanted to read, but just haven’t read around to it yet. This was going to be perfect.
Operative word being ‘was’.
So I put it to you guys here on the blog, and also on Twitter, and the verdict came in – I was going to read at least 2 books, hopefully 3, and they were to be All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio, and Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews. I was planning to get at least the first 2 read. Until I discovered that Pokémon Go had been released in New Zealand.
Make Me Read It went out the window.
No, perhaps I’m being a little harsh on myself. I did read one book – All the Bright Places – buuuut that was it. I could have easily read another book, but Pokémon took up a lot of my time this past week.
And so I failed, on the whole, which is kind of sad. But at the same time, I read a book that I had bought a while ago, and I was really looking forward to reading. I loved it too, so that’s a bonus.
Now I’m back to reading Lady Midnight, which I put on hold for the Readathon, and I’m nearly finished that so I’ll be jumping into The Memory Book, by Lara Avery, which was sent to me by Hachette Publishing NZ.
Look out for a review of All The Bright Places coming soon!
What about you? Were you taking part in the Make Me Read It Readathon? Did you do better than I did?
Or did Pokemon Go take over your life too?
