It’s been an entire day now. And I do realise that there will be probably hundreds, if not thousands of blog posts out there by now about the tragic death of one of the world’s funniest people. But today, I don’t want to focus on his death, I want to celebrate his life and the laughter he brought to so many. I thought I’d share with you guys 8 of my favourite Robin Williams movies. As I was thinking about what my favourites were, I realised that I’ve been watching him since I was about 6 or 7 years old. I don’t think I can say that about many actors. Anyway…here we go!

8. Flubber (1997)
I remember watching this as a kid and cracking up the majority of the movie. Everything about it was funny, not just Robin Williams. I mean, who decides that a squishy green moving lump will make a good film? Who knows.

7. Hook (1991)
It’s quite possible that I saw this version of Peter Pan before I saw the Disney version. *gasp* I know. But when I think ‘Peter Pan’, the first thing I think of his Robin as Peter…and that creepy looking Hook.

6. Good Morning Vietnam (1987)
I don’t remember the first time I saw this movie, all I remember is that I loved it. It was crazy, and brilliant at the same time, and though I was quite young, it was a blast.

5. Aladdin (1992)
Can’t forget Genie! Although this came out in 1992, I didn’t see it till probably the late 90s. I mean, come on, I was 1 when it came out. But Aladdin will always be a great Disney movie, and one of the funniest, and I think it’s because of Robin Williams playing the genie. “Yo, Rugman! Haven’t seen you in a few millennia. Give me some tassel.” Brilliant.

4. August Rush (2007)
*Sniff* This.Movie.Is.Beautiful. And I know that it’s really about August, played by Freddie Highmore, and I know that Wizard is slightly mad, but it’s brilliant, and it’s a movie I can watch over and over again.

3. Night at the Museum (1 & 2…and probably 3) (2006)
This is one of my favourite kids’ movies. I just love it. Robin Williams isn’t a main main character, but he is Teddy Roosevelt and that’s pretty darn awesome. I do love him in the his movie, and while it’ll be hard to watch the 3rd instalment later this year, knowing that he isn’t around any more, I’m sure I will liked it as much as the others.

2. Patch Adams (1998)
This is one of the movies that we studied in English class in high school. I remember that a lot of the time the movies they used to choose were boring…but Patch Adams? What a fantastic movie! One of my favourite parts of Patch Adams is this one. It’s just brilliant. Everything about it…brilliant. “A bazoooooooka” haha.

1. Dead Poet’s Society (1989)
Another one we did in English class. Funny how the only two movies I enjoyed in English were Robin Williams movies. Anyway, I love this movie. It’s funny, it’s sad, it’s moving, it’s brilliant. It’s the movie that taught me about ‘Carpe Diem’, and that standing on your desks, while frowned upon in school, is okay if Robin Williams is your teacher.

So, thank you, Robin Williams, for making us smile, for making us laugh, for making us cry. Though the majority of us never knew you personally, millions around the world will be heartbroken. Here’s to your life, reasonably short though it was. Cheers.

On an even more serious note, guys, if you’re struggling with depression, please talk to someone. It’s not something to be sneezed at; please please please let someone in.
