Opulence. Sex. Betrayal … Sometimes friendship can be deadly.
Meet the women of Buckhead—a place of expensive cars, huge houses, and competitive friendships.
Shannon was once the queen bee of Buckhead. But she’s been unceremoniously dumped by Bryce, her politician husband. When Bryce replaces her with a much younger woman, Shannon sets out to take revenge …
Crystal has stepped into Shannon’s old shoes. A young, innocent Texan girl, she simply has no idea what she’s up against …
Olivia has waited years to take Shannon’s crown as the unofficial queen of Buckhead. Finally, her moment has come. But to take her rightful place, she will need to use every backstabbing, manipulative, underhand trick in the book …
Jenny owns Glow, the most exclusive salon in town. Jenny knows all her clients’ secrets and darkest desires. But will she ever tell?
Who amongst these women will be clever enough to survive Buckhead—and who will wind up dead? They say that friendships can be complex, but no one said it could ever be this deadly.

What is One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose about?
One of Us Is Dead by Jeneva Rose is the story of Buckhead, Georgia: land of mansions, million-dollar cars, and secrets buried deeper than diamond-encrusted stilettos.
The story is really about 6 women: Shannon, Crystal, Olivia, Jenny, Karen and Keisha (while the last two are less so, they’re still important to the story and the dynamics of the others). Shannon, once a queen bee, has been traded in for a younger model by her politician husband, and she wants revenge. Crystal, on the other hand, is pretty new to Buckhead, and is the sunny one in the lineup, but sunny won’t get you far in in this town. Olivia is a backstabbing extraordinaire, and Jenny is the salon owner who seems to know everything and everyone. And in a small town, is that really the best?
Karen isn’t really in the ‘group’ but she’s in the fringes all the same (salon joke? 😆). And Keisha is Jenny’s best friend.
“Women weren’t meant to be quiet.”
Someone is dead. We just don’t who yet. As Jenny serves the rich housewives of Buckhead in her salon, she recalls the events that lead up to the death of one of the women. But we don’t know which one dies. And we don’t know who did it.
My thoughts on One of Us Is Dead
One of Us Is Dead was a really fun (and murderous?) book. As my first Jeneva Rose book, I didn’t really know what to expect, and considering this isn’t usually my thing, I was pleasantly surprised. While the characters in the story made my blood boil (Olivia is horrible), I still found myself so intrigued and drawn into the story.
The drama is … more than dramatic, that’s for sure.
The fact that we, as readers, didn’t know who was going to die gave me Elite vibes. I don’t know if you’ve seen the Spanish show, but in every season there’s a death and you don’t know who did it, and sometimes you don’t even know who it is that has died until the final episodes. I’m sure there are many other books and stories that are a better comparison, but that part, at least, reminded me of Elite.
But not the housewives. They were intense. And I hated most of them. But somehow, despite how horrible 80% of the characters were, there was something about that book that made me want to find out what happened. Especially as I don’t really read books in the drama, thriller sort of genre.
The story is told from multiple points of view, and as each woman is so different, it is quite easy to remember who was who. Especially as I read this via audiobook, and sometimes you forget, ya know?
I’ve given this book a 3/5 stars. I enjoyed it, but I probably wouldn’t read it again. I’ll definitely pick up other Jeneva Rose books, though! Is this me entering a drama/thriller bookish era?
Have you read One of Us Is Dead? What did you think?
