Turning Pages Book Bingo Penguin NZ This Splendid Shambles

Turning Pages Book Bingo, you say? Yes please!

Hopefully you saw my post about Penguin NZ’s latest YA endeavour: the Turning Pages group on Goodreads. If not, you can head over to the post to check it out, but in short, Penguin NZ have formed this space on Goodreads for people who love YA to gather and chat about books, pop in requests for review copies, and generally fan-out over our favourite titles. One of the recent things they’ve put together is the Turning Pages Book Bingo. And it’s pretty neat.

It’s pretty much what you think it is: every time you read a book that fits a square on the Book Bingo sheet they created, you cross it off. Then, when  you have a full line you can flick Penguin an email and let them know, and you’ll go into the draw to win… books! Hazaa!

For the next 8 weeks, we’ll be challenging Turning Pages members to complete a line of bingo. Everyone who completes a line of bingo will go in the draw to win 5 Penguin books of their choice (*books must be in stock and max RRP $35.00 each)!!

To enter, make sure you’re a Turning Pages Member and send your completed bingo form to communications@penguinrandomhouse.co.nz

We’re about halfway through now (the challenge started on July 19th and goes until August 16th), but there’s still time for you to jump in and take part! I’ve managed to read quite a few so far, with the goal of finishing two lines. Here’s what I’ve read so far and a couple of titles I hope will fit in with the other boxes:

  • Historical Fiction: Ruby Red, by Kerstin Geir
  • Classic or Retelling: My Name is Not Peaseblossom, by Jackie French
  • Purple Cover: Broken Throne, by Victoria Aveyard
  • Graphic Novel: In Real Life, by Cory Doctorow and Jen Wang
  • More than 400 pages: Ghosts of the Shadow Market, by Cassandra Clare and co
  • Set in Another World: The Eyes of Tamburah, by Maria V. Snyder

So as you can see, they’re a little all over the place at the moment, but to complete the top two rows I’m planning on reading:

  • Currently own but have never read: The Near Witch, by Victoria Schwab
  • Part of a series: Truly Devious, by Maureen Johnson
  • Published in 2019: Wolf Light, by Yaba Badoe
  • A Number in the Title: Six of Crows, by Leigh Bardugo

The Near Witch I haven’t owned for that long, but it has been several months since I bought it and I’ve been meaning to read it for years, so I think it fits the square; Truly Devious is the first Johnson’s Truly Devious series; Wolf Light was released just last month; and I’ve already read Six of Crows but it’s one of the only books I have at the moment with a number in the title, and also it’s on my list of books to re-read this year.

That’s four books to read between now and August 16th; I think I’ll make it.
