What is Fearless by Lauren Roberts about?
Fearless by Lauren Roberts is the final instalment in the Powerless series. Paedyn and Kai are back in the Kingdom of Ilya, but nothing about their return feels like a homecoming, especially not after the news that Kitt dropped on them at the end of the previous book, Reckless.
The rebellion is burning hotter than ever, loyalties are shifting, and power is hanging by a thread. At the centre of it all is Paedyn Gray (claaaasic), trying to make a choice that could change everything for everyone. One path means survival. The other demands sacrifice. And neither promises a happy ending.
For Kai, being beside her again is both a comfort and a curse. He’s torn between his duty to the crown (and his brother, King Kitt) and the pull of something deeper, something that’s been there from the beginning, no matter how hard he’s tried to bury it. And boy has he tried.
The lines between right and wrong blur more than ever, and Paedyn must decide what kind of future she’s fighting for. And who she’s willing to fight for.

My thoughts on Fearless
Ooof what a series! I was slow on the uptake of the Powerless series by Lauren Roberts, but I think I read all of them in a row, or thereabouts. And when I tell you that never happens with me and a series, it really never happens. It took me about 6 years to read all the Throne of Glass series, even though it’s one of my favourites. 🙈
But for whatever reason, I ate this series up.
It can be tricky, I think, to get a third and final book to be just as good as the rest of the series. So many trilogies have gone downhill after book one, unfortunately, and I’ve ended up really disappointed in the final book. Fearless though? Not the case.
“You don’t need a blade. I would bleed if only you asked.”
Kai and Paedyn are back in the city after gallivanting/being dragged back in the previous book, and we’re seeing some sides to Kitt we haven’t really seen before. The relationship between Kit and Paedyn isn’t like it was before. Where there was a solid friendship before, now it’s strained and tense, even though Paedyn is trying her best to make it like it used to be.
Now that they’re back, Kai’s and Paedyn’s relationship is on the rocks – they can’t really be together anymore, no matter how much they want to be. A classic problem in books.
It’s been mostly Kai and Paedyn’s POV throughout the series, with Kitt having some chapters, too, here and there. But in Fearless we have a new point of view, from the late King. This is important to the story and understanding a bit of the past, so that the present events all come together and make sense.
“Nothing is stronger than a woman who is told she’s weak.”
The big ‘gasp’ moment that Paedyn has, I figured out as soon as we had the late King’s point of view, so while the twists and turns had less of an impact on me, I did like the drama and the chaos that ensued.
Was this series like so many other books out there? Yes. Yes it was. Did it have a billion tropes and themes that we’ve seen before? For sure. And some people don’t like that. And that’s totally fine. But I really enjoyed this series, and if you’re been thinking about picking up the Powerless series, I’d love to know what you think.
