“It looked like the world was covered in a cobbler crust of brown sugar and cinnamon.”
– Sarah Addison Allen, First Frost
There’s something ’bout the way the street looks when it’s just rained covered in orange hues, reds and yellows.
When you hear the crunch of the dead leaves underfoot.
When the breeze has an edge, and the scarves are coming out.
There’s something ’bout autumn.
When the relief of the summer sun is mixed with the impending winter cold.
When the days are shorter, but they’re sunny still. The nights are longer, but they’re cool enough to fall asleep.
There’s something ’bout autumn.
I have always been a lover, an advocate, an excitable human being, when it comes to autumn. It’s this fantastic season between two extremes. Much like Spring it seems to be the perfect temperature – not too hot, not too cold – much like Baby Bear’s porridge.
I love the colours, and the scarves. I love, like I mentioned in my Ode to Autumn post years back, the necessity of tights and leg warmers (In the original post, first I wrote ‘legs and leg warmers’, but just let me stress, my dear friends, the importance of legs no matter what the season).
There are very few things I don’t like about autumn.
Here in New Zealand, the leaves are certainly turning and I couldn’t be happier. There’s a small chance I’ll get 2 autumns this year, so stay tuned for more information regarding that in the coming months. I would be so excited if it happens, because there’s something about even one autumn, and I’m so glad there is.
Love autumn? If you’re in the the Northern Hemisphere right now, how’s Spring going?
