Castles, Courts and Kingdoms – gotta love November’s Owl Crate theme!

I couldn’t resist resubscribing to Owl Crate when they announced what the November theme was. If you’ve unfamiliar with Owl Crate, then in short, they are a monthly YA subscription box that is sent straight to your door every month, full of wonderful items and a recently-published, hardcover YA book with an exclusive Owl Create cover.

While I don’t subscribe every month, as shipping to New Zealand can get pricey, every so often a theme grabs my attention and I give in and resubscribe. That’s one of the wonderful things about Owl Crate – you can easily come and go throughout the year, and don’t have to commit to getting it every single month. This is only my fourth Owl Crate box, but it’s just as wonderful as all the others I’ve received.

So what was in the Castles, Courts and Kingdoms box? Let’s get to unboxing!

Information card, themed zine, and sneak peek for next month

Each month comes with a information card, with all the artists featured in the box and why they chose each item to be included. This little Owl Crate zine is a new one for me. The last box I got was the July 2017 box, which didn’t include this. But it’s such a great idea! Inside are a few puzzles, interviews with some of the artists/creators, and more about the theme. December’s theme reveal car is so sweet! As you can see, the theme for Dec is Seize the Day, and while it does sound like a great box, I can’t justify getting two in a row. Expecto Patronum hat

Okay I absolutly love this!! I need to go to winter right away. Alas, I have to wait until July next year, and even then it doesn’t get cold enough here in Auckland to warrant a hat. However, should I be heading to a cooler climate, this will be the first thing I pack. I love it!

Grisha pin, Owl Crate theme badge, and Game of Thrones lip balm

These pretty Owl Create exclusive wooden badges were designed by Juniper and Ivy and are super neat. There were three different designs, for the three different types of Grisha in the series by Leigh Bardugo (love those books!), and this is one I got. The Owl Crate badge is a snippet from the information card, and the Game of Thrones lip balm was created by Geek Fire Labs and actually tastes so good!

A Court of Thorns and Roses “Don’t Let the Hard Days Win” notebook

While I have read four of Sarah J. Maas‘ Throne of Glass series, I haven’t yet read her A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I have them all sitting waiting for me on my shelf … but time to pick them up in among all the other reads has eluded me. But I do love this notebook! What a great quote, and such a pretty design!

Lord of the Rings, lembas bread soap

One does not simply wash one’s hands without lembas bread soap. This is the best smelling soap I have smelt in years. Fizzy Fairy Apothecary is the creator behind it and I applaud them. Seriously. So good. Get your own here! (Note the ones in the shop are slightly different.)

Book note, author’s signature, and stick on tattoos

We’re getting closer to the book! This is a note from the author, Lauren DeStefano, as well as a signed sticky (which, yes, I have already popped in the front of the book), and some cool book-themed tattoos.

And the book of the month is The Glass Spare, by Lauren DeStefano! This was on my Goodreads reading list for a little while, so I’m super excited that it was the book of the month. You can read all about it on Goodreads, or pick up a copy for yourself on Book Depository. Can’t wait to pick it up!

I’ve nearly convinced myself that it would be worth moving to North America so I could get this at a better price each month. Nearly.
