Block it out. Impossible for Talia Lyons. When you’re a Mind Manipulator, it’s hard enough to block the thoughts of others, let alone your own.

Block it out. The pounding, siren-ready world Talia inhabits as she trains with her fellow Hunters, the country's top-secret covert operatives. The physical demands. The emotional toll.
Block it out. The secrets that Talia’s boyfriend is hiding. Talia’s unbidden feelings of frustration and annoyance toward her teammate, the Casanova of the compound. The wondering why she cares what he thinks.

Block him out. Ian Crane. The man behind the bloodshed marring Talia’s memories of her murdered parents. The man she’s determined to kill.

Block it all out. Focus.

I’ve actually had this book, Talented, by Sophie Davis, sitting on my Net Galley dashboard for a good couple of months now, but I’ve only just gotten around to reading it. I’m glad I did, too, because I really enjoyed it.

What is Talented by Sophie Davis about?

Talented by Sophie Davis tells the story of a future America. The Great Contamination happens due to a nuclear spill that causes a generation of children to be born with abnormalities. These people are called Talented.

Their abnormalities range from Telekinesis to Morphers, and they are taught by the government how to shape their gifts, so they can use their talents for good. 100 years or so later, Talia is a Mind Manipulator, meaning she can read minds, put thoughts into people’s heads, move objects with her mind etc. She joins the Hunters, a group of assassin-like spies, in the hopes that one day she will get her revenge on the man who killed her parents. With the help of her teammates, Erik and Henri, Talia strengthens her talent and starts her first missions on the field.

My thoughts on Talented

Talented was very enjoyable, and I found myself reading it well into the night, wondering what was going to happen next. It was a fast-paced story with a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes, and the characters were actually brilliant.

There was a great mix of dislike-able characters and lovable ones, and I think my favourite was, surprise surprise, Talia’s friend, Penny. She was just nuts but in the best possible way.  There was something off about one of the characters from the get-go and my suspicions were, indeed, confirmed…but I won’t say any more than that!

While it ended on an odd note, Talented was a great read, and I think I would like to read the next one, Caged.

Have you read Talented?

I received this book for free from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
