Top 5 Fave Books of 2013

Not necessarily ones that have come out this past year, but ones that I’ve read. In 2013 I set my Good Reads goal to 40 books, and I finished that goal back in October. I’m glad I finished then, because I have read so little in past few months; it’s been all ‘argh we’re leaving the country’ and so busy! But out of the 40 something books I’ve read this year, I’ve got a few favourites. This list will be mentioned on Blogger’s Bookshelf soon, but I thought I’d go into a little more detail here.

Under the Never Sky series, by Veronica Rossi.
It’s more than one book, I know, but I really enjoyed this series, and I’m really looking forward to the next one. Allegiant, by Veronica Roth.
This is the third and final instalment of the Divergent series, and I read the first two (Divergent and Insurgent) last year, and loved them a lot (perhaps even more than the Hunger Games!), so I was super super excited for this to be released this year. Although it was a bit of a different book to the first two in this series, I did really enjoy it. You can read my review of that here. Looking forward to re-reading these books before the film comes out this year.

The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green.
I had read only one of John Green’s books before this one, and hadn’t really enjoyed it, but this book! Oh my word. So good! If you haven’t read any of John Green’s books, then I would highly recommend this one. I haven’t read any more of his, other than that one I didn’t enjoy, but I would really like to. The movie adaptation is also coming out this year, so look out for that! You can read my review of The Fault in Our Stars here.

A Discovery of Witches, by Deboarh Harkness.
I hadn’t really heard of this book before I read a description on Good Reads. I got it out from the library and read it over the course of about 2 days while we travelled up to Scotland. I really enjoyed this witches/vampires/werewolf story, which is set in Oxford, England. I like it so much that I bought a copy for myself, and also the second one, so I’m looking forward to continuing the story! You can read my review of A Discovery of Witches here.

The Name of the Star, by Maureen Johnson.
This is great book. It’s so well written, and you get hooked right in. I really loved the story and the characters, and not only that, but at 372 pages long, it’s a very enjoyable quick read. The second book, The Madness Underneath, I think came out in 2013, but I haven’t read it yet. There’s also a third one coming soon, hopefully this year! Better read the second one first though!
