Ah, the end of the year! With November and December comes a blogging challenge for the festive season: Blogmas. I’m going to keep this intro nice and short and sweet because in this Ultimate Guide to Blogmas, we go into all the nitty-gritty details you need to know about Blogmas, how to get involved, ideas for Blogmas to get you going, and even a FREE printable Blogmas planner!

Let’s get into it!

What is Blogmas?

Much like Blogtober, Blogmas is a challenge for bloggers that takes up the month of December. Traditionally, bloggers post a blog post per day, usually one that is Christmas-themed. But there are different ways to do Blogmas.

Some bloggers follow prompts or Blogmas Calendars, while others will freestyle it and post whatever they’d like for the month.

Some bloggers will only do Christmas-related posts, and others will simply use the challenge to share a post a day.

And then others will change it up a little bit and, instead of publishing a blog post every single for December (which I think is unsustainable – you can read more about my thoughts on these sorts of challenges here), other bloggers will do the 12 Days of Christmas, or they’ll publish a blog post in the 24th days leading up to Christmas.

There are plenty of ways that you can get involved with Blogmas.

Let’s look at that next.

How to get involved with Blogmas

There is no official way to get involved with Blogmas. You simply decide you’re going to take part, and what you do with that knowledge is up to you. There are some communities out there that you can join to ‘take part’ but on the whole, it’s something that you can just do.

I find it helpful for challenges like this (when I’ve done them in the past) to find a hashtag on Instagram and follow along with that.

  • #blogmas
  • #blogmas2025
  • #blogmas25
  • #blogmasbloggers

When should I start planning for Blogmas?

November at the latest. If not October. Coz here’s the thing: creating blog posts takes time. And if you’re planning on creating 31 posts for December, you need to be ahead of the game.

But you can also plan throughout the year! Whenever you have an idea for Blogmas, write it down. Keep a running list of ideas on your phone or in your planner so that when it comes to actually sitting down and figuring out what you’re going to write (more on them soon!), then you’re already ahead of the game. You’re already a step ahead.

And I will say: it doesn’t matter if those ideas are ‘bad’ ideas. They might seem whacky at the time, but still, write them down. You never know what sort of perspective you might view them from in a few months.

How to create blog posts for Blogmas

It’s all very well and good to commit to Blogmas, but how do you actually go about creating posts to fill up the month?

It can be an overwhelming task to write a post every single day (or 12 posts! Or however many you decide to post in December)

Set a goal & Make a Plan

Will you publish a blog post every day in December?

Or will you post every other day?

Perhaps it’ll actually work better if you try the 12 Days of Blogmas instead?

Whatever you decide on, you’ll need to get yourself a goal and a plan to make it happen. You’ve got your goal, but when are you actually going to make steps to hit that goal? Your blog posts won’t magically appear just because you’ve set the goal.

Figure out when and where in your week you and work on your Blogmas posts. This is something I work on a lot with my blog coaching clients: how can you find time in your week and carve that out so that the only thing you’re doing is working on your blog?

Is it going to be every Monday night after work for an hour? Or perhaps it’s Wednesday evening after the kids have gone to bed? Or is it heading to a cafe on a Saturday morning for 2 hours?

Whatever your week looks like, it’s going to look different to mine or Jane’s over there. You need to find your own blogging habit, especially when it comes to blogging challenges such as Blogmas (and Blogtober!).

Brainstorm your ideas

Hopefully, you’re brainstorming ideas for your blogging content often. It’s a really valuable exercise just to get you thinking a little bit differently about your blog and your content.

But when it comes to planning for Blogmas, you might need a new set of ideas.

As I mentioned before, you might be doing your ‘usual’ sorts of posts on your blog for Blogmas, or you might be dancing into that Christmas spirit with a Santa hat on, eggnog in one hand and wrapping paper in the other.

If all your posts for Blogmas are going to be Christmas-themed, then you really need to brainstorm your ideas for the month. There are a bunch of different ways you could brainstorm or generate ideas.

5 ways to Generate Blog Post Ideas for Blogmas

  1. Pen and paper – Simply get a huge piece of paper and a crayon/your writing utensil of choice. And go nuts. Whatever Christmassy idea fits in with your niche … write it down. You can hone it later.
  2. Use a tool such as Answer the Public taking a look at what other people are searching for online can be a great way to think up ideas. Start by putting in your keywords for your content pillar (eg Christmas books) and see what Answer the Public pops out. (Some of my results for ‘Christmas books’: most popular Christmas books, the best Christmas books, cheap Christmas books for kids. There are so many options!)
  3. See what posts did well last year – did you write any Christmas posts last year? See what was popular and see if you can either update that post or create something similar.
  4. Head to Pinterest – Pinterest isn’t just for collecting inspiration for your wedding or what craft you’re going to tackle next. It’s a search engine, and you can use Keywords (like ‘Christmas books) to see what other people are writing about. Also, check out Pinterest Trends in October or November to see what sorts of Christmas trends will be coming up.
  5. Find lists people have already created – why do all the work when someone else has done it for you? Check out the list of Blogmas ideas at the bottom of this blog post!

Set a schedule

So you’ve got your goal, you know when you’re going to sit down and write your Blogmas posts, and you’ve even got your list of ideas. Now you need to set a schedule.

My suggestion is to get yourself a blog planner if you don’t have one already. You can easily populate the month of December with the posts you’re going to publish and when.

This is a good idea to keep yourself on track, to see what posts are a priority to create, which ones you’re going to share first, and even if there are any connecting posts you need to post before others.

Batch create your content

One of my favourite ways to create content for my blog is to batch-create posts. Now, full disclosure: this isn’t for everyone. If this isn’t your jam, feel free to quickly move along.

But if you like to be efficient and create bulk posts at one time, then this is for you! You could do all your posts for Blogmas (though if you’re doing 31 posts, then that’s a lot of work all in one go!), or do it week by week. What I mean is: batch 7 posts then batch the next 7, and then the next etc.

Here’s how you might batch-create your content for Blogmas:

  • Brainstorm ideas: You’ve already done this! Woo! But the first thing to do is to brainstorm all the things you want to write about over the month.
  • Find your keywords: When finding the keywords you want to use for each of the blog posts, you can use sites such as Google Search Console, UberSuggest, Ahrefs, or Keywords Everywhere.
  • Draft your posts: Outline and draft all your blog posts, remembering to use those keywords.
  • Source or take images: Now find all the images for every post you’ve drafted. Make sure when you add them to your blog posts they’re not too big (try to keep them under 100kb) and add alt-text to them.
  • Format and add links: Ensure your blog posts are well formatted. You can learn more about how to format your blog posts here.
  • Edit your posts: And now it’s edit time! Go through your blog posts and make sure they’re up to scratch. You can use a tool like Grammarly to make sure your spelling and grammar are correct throughout your posts.
  • Schedule all your posts: Schedule those babies! This is so satisfying I find! You’ve just done all this work but then BAM you’ve got 7 (or however many) blog posts already scheduled. So satisfying.
  • Create social media content: The other thing you can do in this batch-creation process is create the social media posts you’ll share when these blog posts go live. Or you can do it closer to publication time. Up to you!

8 tips for how to survive Blogmas

Blogmas is a busy time of the blogging calendar. Just to add to the busyness of Christmas itself. If you’re planning on participating in Blogmas this year, you’ll need some tips to survive. Here are 10 tips for serving this blogging season.

  1. Plan ahead
  2. Schedule your posts
  3. Take time out of your week to work on it
  4. Remember, you don’t have to do all 31 posts
  5. Don’t get bogged down in the details
  6. Avoid spending too much time looking at other people’s Blogmas posts
  7. Get yourself a community
  8. Give yourself grace

Plan ahead

We already talked about this one, but I cannot stress enough the importance of planning. There’s no way you’re going to successfully wing it for Blogmas and also stay sane. And if you can do that then, friend, give me all your secrets and tips. Start planning in early November.

Schedule your posts

Do not wait until the day of to hit publish. You’ll forget. You know you will.

When your blogging platform (WordPress, Squarespace, Wix etc) has a scheduling function … use it. Honestly. It means you can set and forget your blog posts. Yes, you’ll need to come back to it when you promote it, but you won’t have to worry about hitting publish on a certain date.

Past you scheduled it. She’s onto it. Thank her.

Take time out of your week to work on it

We talked about this one too, but I find it helpful to carve out time during my week to work on my blog posts. Especially when it comes to Christmas and Blogmas, or another blogging challenge that takes up more time than usual.

Right now it’s Friday morning for me, and I’ve carved out 9am – 12noon to work on my blog posts. That’s what works for me, but it might not work for you. Find a time or two or three during your week and set it aside. Literally, put it in your diary so you can’t schedule anything else in there.

Remember, you don’t have to do all 31 posts

Remember that Blogmas is what you make it. Whether that be going hard and doing all 31 one days (something I don’t recommend doing – burn out much!?), or if it’s 12 days of Christmas or if it’s simply setting yourself that goal of X amount of blog posts in a month.

Just because other bloggers might have the time, energy, space, ideas, and mental capacity to do all 31 posts, doesn’t mean you have to follow suit. Do what works for you. Don’t do what works for other people. You’ll burn out. You’ll get over your blog pretty fast.

Don’t get bogged down in the details

Perfectionism is a biggy in the blogging world. Remember it doesn’t have to be perfect. Hate to break it to ya, but it probably never will be.

Write your blog posts for Blogmas. Do a good job. But don’t get bogged down in the details of it all. The most important thing about having a blog is having fun. No joke. I honestly believe that. Because if you’re not having fun, then what’s the point? If you don’t enjoy what you’re writing and creating and you’re just doing it to get traffic or rank on Google … is there a point?

Avoid spending too much time looking at other people’s Blogmas posts

Imposter syndrome and comparison can creep in quickly, no matter what time of the year it is. But many people will be creating Blogmas posts this year and it’s easy to spend too much time looking at what other people are doing and a) comparing ourselves and our posts with them and theirs, and b) literally procrastinating our own work.

Absolutely check out the hashtags and build your community (see next point), but remember that in order to create content for Blogmas … you actually gotta create content. And you can’t do that if you’re spending too much time on Reels or TikTok.

Get yourself a community

But at the same time, don’t go it alone. Ha. Seems like a contradiction, right? But I think having a community around you and having those blogging friends who are doing Blogmas too can really help you stay sane and survive Blogmas.

You can bounce ideas off them, get their opinion, share your posts with them, and ask them to guest post! They’ll be encouraging of you and your blog posts just as you will be encouraging of them and their blog posts.

And who doesn’t love blogging friends?!

Give yourself grace

The best way to survive Blogmas this year? Give yourself grace. Take a breath. Take your time.

If you didn’t manage to write and schedule your posts like you wanted to, that’s totally fine! You did what you could. You worked hard and you got some posts out there. You’re doing a great job. Remember that.
