2016 Movie Releases I’m Excited For

The beginning of the new year not only brings resolutions that are almost instantly broken, summer sunburn (or winter frost bite, depending on your hemisphere), a huge pile of books that is quickly being read through, and the still full feeling of the stomach from Christmas and New Years…but it means a whole new cohort of movie releases. And that is something to be excited about.

And my goodness, 2016 looks like it’s going to be an incredible year in the movie world. There are so many movies this year that I’m really looking forward, including not one or two, but 5 Marvel ones. What are they trying to do to me!?

Today I’m going to share with you the movies I’m looking forward to (out of the ones I know are being released), and if there’s any that I’ve missed that you think I might like, do let me know! Not 100% of these release dates in each country, but this is what IMDB tells me.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride (Jan 1)
May have seen this already. Considering we have to wait so long to see season 4, this was a nice tie over until then.

The 5th Wave (Jan 22)
Okay, so I have been meaning to read this book for so long now, and it often happens that it’s the release of the movie that really kicks my A into G and makes me read it. I bought the book last week, and finished it, so I can now see the movie.


Deadpool (Feb 12)
I’m a little hesitant about this movie. But it’s Marvel, so we’re gonna give it a shot.

Zoolander 2 (Feb 12)
Oh my word, guys. Way too excited about this!

This looks like such a fun movie. I’m all for the kids’ films, and hopefully this one will be another good one.


The Little Prince (Mar 18)
Yay! So looking forward to seeing this! It’ll be great to see how they’ve done it in movie form. From what I’ve seen of the trailers, it’s going to be fantastic! And what a line up of actors!


Allegiant (Mar 18)
You know why I’m looking forward to this movie? Becuase it’s just one movie. Thankfully they havn’t done what so many film makers have been doing thee days and chopping the last book into two movies. Seriously guys.

Batman vs Superman (Mar 25)
So I’m only half excited about this. I’m not really a DC fan, more of a Marvel fan, but at the end of the day…it’s Batman vs Superman. I’m going to see it. Also…Henry Cavill.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (Mar 25)
We have waited 14 years for this movie. 14 years. That’s longer than my little sister has been alive for. How great was the first film? So brilliant. It’s one that is much quoted in my family, and one of the only movies that my mum has seen multiple times. Definitely looking forward to laughing through this one.

The Jungle Book (Apr 15)
One of the most exciting things about this time in life is that they’re making Disney movies into Live Action films. Cinderella was the most beautiful movie last year – so much so I saw it twice at the cinema – and I can’t wait to see Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson next year. But this year we have the Jungle Book and I’m really excited to see how they do all the animals. The trailers look amazing!

Captain America: Cival War (May 6)
The second Marvel release of the year and it’s only May. I really liked the other two Cap Am movies, and I’m happy that Iron Man is going to be in this one, seeing as that movie line has ended. I’ve heard mixed reactions about what this movie will be like, so I guess we will just have to wait and see.

X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27)
Yay! Another X-Men movie! Soon an X-Men marathon will take up an entire week of our lives. While not everyone liked X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past, I really did, and I’m looking forward to another movie pre the original 3 films. The trailer looks insaaaane!

Alice Through the Looking Glass (May 27)
Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favourite stories, and I really liked Tim Burton’s take on it. Looking forward to seeing what this one will be like.

Now You See Me 2 (Jun 10)
Not a lot of people I know have actually seen the first movie, and I’m not really sure why. I really liked it, though perhaps that’s because I love magic and tricks and illusions. Movies like The Illusionist, and The Prestige are fantastic, and I can’t wait to add another movie to that list!

Finding Dory (Jun 17)
Eeeeeep! Seriously, I think that’s all I have to say on this matter.

The Legend of Tarzan (Jul 1)
The trailer for this movie. Oh.My.Word. Looks amazing. Much like the Jungle Book, I love how they’re making live action Disney films. My only gripe will be that the movie won’t be full of Phil Collins songs. But on the plus side, two words: Alexander Skarsgård

I loved this story as a kid. Definitely looking forward to seeing this on the big screen.

The Secret Life of Pets (Jul 8)
Heh heh! This looks hilarious! Hopefully another great kids’ film to add to the collection.

Ghostbusters (Jul 15)
While I have added this movie to this list, I’m unsure how I feel about it. I love the original Ghostbusters movies, so it’ll be a bit of a shame to re-do them. However! The Ghostbusters in this 2016 version are all women, so I’ll be interested to see how that’ll all work out. There’s no plot on IMDB so I don’t know if the story lines will be similar, or if they will completely change it all.

Star Trek Beyond (Jul 22)
While I’m definitely Star Wars over Star Trek, I do really enjoy these movies. It might possibly have something to do with Chris Pine and his eyes, but it also has to do with the general plot and story…of course. Right?

Ice Age: Collision Course (Jul 22)
I cannot believe that they are still making Ice Age movies. But what I can’t believe even more is how they haven’t jumped the shark yet. I love these movies, and while the first one will always be the best, the Ice Age films have never left me down. Hopefully this movie won’t be the one to do so.

Bridget Jones’ Baby (Sep 16)
Eep! Another Bridget Jones’ movie! It is sort of that feeling, though, that the two previous ones were so long ago, and so great, that this one could ruin everything. But I figure it’s a) a British movie, b) it’s Bridget Jones and c) Colin Firth is still in it. So I think it’ll be fine.

Doctor Strange (Nov 4)
And here’s another Marvel movie for you. With a Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch included. Hello. This looks crazy crazy crazy. But it’s Marvel, so fingers crossed it’ll be good.

Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them (Nov 18)
When you haven’t had any new Harry Potter anything in a while, the announcement of Fantastic Beasts was the most exciting thing to happen all year for the HP fandom. Myself included. Of course, since then, we’ve had the announcement and casts’ names released for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a stage play, but for those of us who can’t get to London to see that two part play, Fantastic Beasts is something we’re all definitely looking forward to. Also, Eddie Redmayne is pretty darn awesome.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Dec 16) 
Do we think they’ve created this slight spin off movie to tie us over until Episode VIII? According to Wikipedia, “it will be the first film in the Star Wars Anthology series, a collection of stand-alone stories set in the Star Wars universe”. Apparently it takes place just before the events in Episode IV, and while it is Star Wars…it doesn’t really feel like Star Wars. I don’t know. We’ll see!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars (Dec 25)
This is another one of those books that I’ve been meaning to read and haven’t gotten around to it yet. It looks like I have a little less than a year to get on to that.
