27 Young Adult Book Releases for Spring 2024

As well as reading books, I love researching books. And generally just browsing online, adding things to my TBR list, or checking out what’s coming from authors I already know and love. There are so many great-sounding Young Adult book releases for spring in 2024, so I’ve compiled a bit of a list for you.
These release dates are all between March and May (Northern Hemisphere Spring), and I have to say there seems to be a horror/thriller theme coming through a lot this year, even looking forward to summer and fall/autumn. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

‘YA horror slasher’ is not the one for me, however, the concept of the story – daughter of a serial killer – is very unique. I know I definitely haven’t read anything like that before – have you? Let me know!

Being a fan of Greek mythology, this one was a quick ‘add to TBR’. The fact that the other boy’s name is Helios, who, in Greek mythology and lore, is like a personification of the sun, was brilliant. Looking forward to this retelling.

I know that this one here is a standalone, but popping on this list of YA spring releases reminded me I need to read it. Ha. You know how it is. Anyway, this book comes out in March, and I’m looking forward to picking up.

This sounds (and looks!) like a more cosy fantasy read, one that’s actually more suited to curling up with in autumn or winter. And I love the idea of it being set in medieval Wales.

But it turns out that the tropes she swoons over in her stories are slightly less romantic in reality, and her not-so-fictional crush is causing some real-world problems. To figure out why Weston is here and what to do with him, Ivy decides to team up with Henry and (against her better judgment) Mack. But with Mack back in her life, Ivy starts to wonder if Weston, her “perfect guy”, is the one who’s truly perfect for her . . . or if that was someone else all along.
I’ve read multiple Sophie Gonzales books now – including If This Gets Out and Perfect on Paper – and enjoyed them. This one is described as ‘friends-to-enemies-to-lovers’ and that’s a round-a-bout story of story that I get behind.

Coming back to more of a general fiction genre, In the Orbit of You by Ashley Schumacher, which comes out in March 2024, sounds like a heartbreaking story. But a beautiful one at the same time.

There is a lot going on in this description – we have music, poetry, bandits, Dukes and nobility, monsters, and other realms. That’s a lot. But the book is already gaining a lot of 5-star reviews on Goodreads, from all the people who got ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies), so it’s one to look out for, for sure!

I have to say, this cover is golden. Stunning work. 👏🏻 This does, however, sound intense. It’s giving me slight horror, fantasy and supernatural sort of vibes, and I think I want to read it? I’m definitely intrigued by this book, let’s put it at that.

And take a breath again, for a general fiction, as Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao is our next one. This sounds like such a great story, and it’s so good to see book releases that are about platonic friendships and relationships. And one that has aromantic and asexual characters as the main characters.

It is so so good to see so many Asian-inspired and Asian character representations in this year’s YA books. And this one tells us it’s the Chinese underworld meets Shadowhunter Chronicles. Obviously, I am pumped about this one. We’ve got magic, Reapers, fancy-pants famous families, gods and kings. You just know you’re in for an intense but magical story.

This Is Me Trying by Racquel Marie (which just has me singing Taylor Swift lyrics) sounds like a heartwrenching story of friendship and lost love, and I’m not sure I’m ready for it. But it’s going on the list all the same.

I was thinking recently that I haven’t read an anthology of stories in a while now. I really enjoy it when authors get together and write short stories based around a particular theme. The Black Girl Survives in This One is one such book, all the stories being written by Black authors about Black girls. The only thing I’m not sure about is the horror genre, but I’m willing to give it a go!

On Goodreads the genre for this book are Young Adult, Contemporary, Thriller, LGBT, Horror, Mystery, and honestly? That sounds like it sums it up pretty well. The high-flying family full of secrets … it seems to lean more towards contemporary than mystery if the Goodreads reviews that are out are anything to go on, but I’m going to look forward to reading this one, too.

I feel like this cover is really out of place in this list of young adult book releases for spring. 🤣 But this ‘grumpy-sunshine teen romance’ in the great outdoors sounds like a really fun read, perfect for the warmer months as the temperature starts to heat up a bit in May, ready for Summer.
