The first book haul of the year! While I love buying books (and I say ‘love’ when really mean ‘have an addiction to’), this year I’m trying not to spend as much on books. I’ve discovered that the Auckland Library is super fast at getting books to you when you’ve reserved them, which is so much better than any library I’ve been a part of in the past. That being the case, I currently have 6 books sitting on my floor from the library all waiting to be read. Hopefully this will be less books being bought this year … hopefully.

Of course there will be the odd book that sneaks jumps into my basket though, so never fear – there will most certainly be book hauls this year, just hopefully (says her bank account) they’ll be a little more sporadic.

This book haul is a mix of opshop/second hand store buys, and a couple from the lovely people over at Hachette Publishing NZ.

The Golem and the Djinni, by Helen Wecker

My friend read this book a little while back and enjoyed it. I managed to pick this up in a second hand shop at the end of the last year.

Lone Wolf, by Jodi Picoult

Surprisingly, one the only JP books I didn’t have. Also found this in a second hand shop.

Chelsea Winter’s Scrumptious Recipe Book

I really enjoy Chelsea Winter’s cookbooks. They’re all very simple recipes, mostly using what you’ve already got in the pantry. This one my parents got me for Christmas, and it’s her latest.

The Witches of New York, my Amy McKay

I was given this book as a surprise package from Hachette Publishing NZ. They are the sweetest people! I didn’t even request it! Love those guys. Have yet to read it, but it sounds good!

Frostblood, by Elly Blake

Now this one I did request from Hachette. This was a great book, and you can read my full review here.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Illustrated Edition, by J.K. Rowling and Jim Kay

Flip this is another stunning addition to the illustrated editions of the HP series. I love this so much. My friend got this for me for my Christmas/Birthday present and I love it so much. Look out for a full post dedicated to it coming soon!

The Sun is Also a Star, by Nicole Yoon

I’ve heard great things about this book, and I was hoping to read it over the summer, as per my 5 Stand-Alone Books I hope to Read This Summer post, but alas, I didn’t quite get around to it. Bought this one on Book Depository.

And that’s it! Until next time (hopefully in the distant future)!

Have you hauled any books recently? Or perhaps you got some goodies for Christmas?
