Technically the end of summer is the last day of February, but it’s still pretty warm here in New Zealand. If you recall my posts from early December, I shared with you some of the sequels I hoped to read over the holidays, and also some of the stand alone books.
Seeing as it’s now March, I thought I’d update you on how I did. If you follow along on Goodreads or on Instagram, then you may have some idea of what I was reading over the summer. If not, then you’re about to find out just how badly I did with my hopes and plans!
5 Sequels I Hoped to Read
The Last Star by Rick Yancey
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon
Prodigy by Marie Lu
The Magician King by Lev Grossman
I’ve proud to announce that I read 2 from this list. I read Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas and also read The Magician King (and the next in the series, The Magician’s Land), by Lev Grossman. Despite the fact that I only made it through 2 on the Sequels list, I’m okay with that. You can see a more detailed list of these books on the 5 Sequels I Hope to Read post.
5 Stand Alones I Hoped to Read
Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid
Landline by Rainbow Rowell
Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven
We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach
The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
Oh man. Guys. I only read one of these books! Oh my word, that’s so bad! I read Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven and I loved it. You can read my review of it here. But the others? They’re all still sitting unread on my shelf. That’s terrible.

So overall, out of these 10 books I had hoped to read over the summer, I only read 3. Oh the shame. But in my defense (for I must state my case), I did read a lot of other books, and when I got home after my time away, the library had about 10 books waiting for me to pick up. That meant that the books that I own (all of these above) are still being put on hold. You don’t get late fines for books that you already own.
Perhaps it wasn’t a good idea to update you all on my lack of progress from the summer … but I told you I would, so I am sticking to what I said, even if the whole accountability thing sort of when out the window. Ah well. Hopefully I’ll read some of these this year.
From December – February I read books. Some were amazing, some were pretty good, a couple I wouldn’t read again.
What have you read over the past few months?
