It was pretty grey when we visited Victoria, Vancouver Island

After spending 2 days in the city of Vancouver, Canada, we headed across to Victoria Vancouver Island on the ferry. While I hear the boat ride is pretty beautiful, the day was grey and rainy, so there was little to be seen. We arrived at Schwartz Terminal, just north of Victoria City, and were picked up by the family members we were visiting.

Our time in Victoria was short – just one full day – but we did a little shopping the in the morning, then our host took us to the beautiful Beacon Hill Park, full of autumnal colours, Canada geese, peacocks, and the world’s tallest totem pole.

As we were gazing up at the neck-craning structure, a young man got to chatting with us. He was working for the Parks and Rec department (for real – but alas, he was not Leslie Knope), and he explained to us that actually it wasn’t the tallest in the world anymore, but the 4th tallest. Apparently, others had overshot its record in the years that followed its creation.

Shout out to Micah, the Parks and Rec guy. *waves*

Despite it being mostly grey all day, the mountains but a mere dim silhouette against the monochrome sky, the little bit we saw of Victoria definitely made me want to go back one day (perhaps in the summer) and explore it properly.

In the evening we caught our ferry from Victoria across the ocean border and into Seattle, where we would stay for 2 days before heading to the next destination.

Have you been to Victoria, Vancouver Island? What did you think?
