The BoMoSh stands for Books, Movies and Shows, and that’s exactly what we talk about on these monthly posts. I share what I’ve read and seen in the last month, and I always welcome suggestions for books, shows and movies. Leave me a comment if you think there’s something that I might enjoy.

So I managed to get through possibly the largest pile of books I’ve ever read in a month…sort of. As you can see, many of these are comic books, and while I’ve still included them in my Goodreads 2018 list, I don’t know if I should be counting them like this. I might actually adjust the 10 books in this series into 4, as there are larger collective bind-ups.

The White Book was the September Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club pick, and it was a poetry book. I don’t read much poetry (she says, as the reader spots Atticus on her September reads list – I know I know), so found it quite difficult to get into. I found myself skimming many of the longer ones, unfortunately. There were a few short ones that I really like, but not enough to move it past a 2-star for me.

The Anger of Angels and And the Ocean was Our Sky both came from Walker Books AUS, Two Roads from Here and The Last Magician from Simon & Schuster AUS, and The Impostors from Allen & Unwin NZ. Thank you!

I also ‘read’ two audio books this month, Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali which I gave 3 stars too, and then I re-read Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, which is still a 5-star review from me.

Movies | 3

A Wrinkle in Time (2018)

Okay, so I really wanted to watch ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ when it came out, and while it’s been out in the world for a while now, I’ve only just recently seen it. It looked so awesome, but it was such a big let down. It was the weirdest movie I’ve seen in a long time, and not whimsical and magical weird, like … weird weird. And considering the lineup of incredible actors and a whole crazy world to play with … I just don’t know what happened. Probably don’t bother watching it if it’s on your list. Not even worth the time.

‘A Simple Favour’, however, was brilliant. Two friends and I headed to Chicks at the Flicks, which is a girls-only screening put on by Event Cinemas here in NZ. You pay a bit extra, and get a goodie bag and a glass of wine with your ticket. Such fun! The movie was excellent too, and it was awesome seeing Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in a movie together. If you haven’t seen it yet, get on it!

It was great to catch the latest Johnny English movie, too, and it definitely had me reminiscing about my very early teen years when the other movies were released.

Shows

I finished Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 3 this month (have to say it wasn’t as funny as the first series), and then I discovered that How to Get Away with Murder season 4 was on Netflix ANZ so heck yes I watched that. So good. If you’re into your drama with a bit of murder, law, politics and a bit of romance thrown in, seriously watch this show. Every single episode you think ‘what on earth’ and ‘oh my stars what just happened’, and it’s brilliant. Brilliant.

I’ve also been trying to catch up on New Girl, as I’m about 2 seasons behind, and I am stoked that Brooklyn 99 Season 5 is now on Netlix ANZ, and that The Good Place has started again.

Next Month…

Books – I have a great load of books all lined up and ready to go for October. I’m hoping to read Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes? by Holly Bourne, A Curse of Ash and Embers by Jo Spurrier, and Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawaboth, all from HarperCollins NZ, as well as Dry, by Neal Shusterman from Walker Books AUS, and What If It’s Us, by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera, which was given to me by Simon & Schuster AUS. There’s a few more on that list, but I don’t know if I’ll get to them.

Movies – There’s a couple of movies on Netflix I’m keen to watch, and a few coming out at the cinemas too. Though my movie record is not great, so stand by for October’s BoMoSh to find out if I actually got around to watching any.

Shows – October is the month of new shows and I am mega excited!! Doctor Who comes out in a week (ohmygosh breathe), Riverdale Season 3 starts, as well as the revamped Sabrina series (which looks super dark, so I’ll watch the pilot and see how we go).
