Get Back to to Blogging Blogtober Challenge

I don’t know about you, but this year I’m looking forward to the Blogtober Challenge more than ever before. I tried to do the traditional Blogtober Challenge a few times back in my earlier days of blogging but definitely failed. Ha.

In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at what the Blogtober Challenge is, where its troubles lie, and a solution for how you can take part in a different Blogtober Challenge that actually makes a difference and an improvement on your blog.

What is Blogtober Challenge?

Blogtober is a challenge that bloggers take part in October each year, where they write a blog post a day. It’s popular with lifestyle bloggers, especially, though many different niches take part.

That seems pretty extreme, right? Right. That’s 31 posts in a month. It’s not a very sustainable way of blogging, for many reasons, but predominantly in my mind because there’s a sudden rush of content on your blog and then probably nothing for a while after that.

You get burnt out by the intensity of the month, and then you arrive at the end in a bit of a heap.

When should you start planning for Blogtober?

You’ll want to start planning for Blogtober as soon as possible, especially if you’re planning on publishing a post every single day. If you’re dialling it back a notch, then September is a good time to start.

What are the rules of Blogtober?

There aren’t really any rules to Blogtober, per se, but the idea is to publish a blog post each day for the duration of October. But you can interpret Blogtober in any way you want. But here’s the thing.

While I don’t love the idea of publishing a blog post a day if you’ve never done that before, I do really like the idea of a CHALLENGE, and using the month as a bit of an opportunity to carve out a specific time to form a blogging habit, creating a sustainable blogging schedule that you can actually use after the month is over. That’s why we’re doing a different challenge this year.

What is the Get Back to Blogging Blogtober Challenge?

The Get Back to Blogging Blogtober Challenge is a challenge to help you create a blogging habit, and connect with other bloggers. It’s a 31-day challenge which will set you up nicely for the rest of the year and into the next.

Instead of publishing a blog post a day for the whole month of October (although you can!), you can choose a challenge to get involved with. This might be something like:

  • publish 1 blog post a week
  • publish 3 blog posts a week
  • write 8 drafts over the month
  • something else

While the original Blogtober Challenge was started to challenge bloggers to publish 1 x blog post per day, that’s not that feasible for most people. Especially if you’re not in a blogging habit already.

Also, it’s not easy to keep up, and consistency is important when it comes to blogging.

The goal of this Get Back to Blogging Blogtober Challenge is not to publish a bunch of posts. Rather, it’s to help you form a blogging habit, one that you can upkeep come November, and keep going into the months after.

Having several options like this is a good starting point for a bigger group of people. And hey, if you don’t like the sound of any of the options (no offence taken!), then you can always opt to choose your own goal. That’s absolutely fine!
