Huka Falls | New Zealand

The other day I shared with you some pictures of the beautiful sunset and full moon that we saw last week, when we were on our way to Napier. After spending the night there, we drove back to Auckland, but because it was only a 5 hour drive, and we left in good time in the morning, we decided to stop off at a few places along the way. Rather than bombard you with a whole post full of images, I thought I’d break up the posts to the places we went. Today then, is Huka Falls. Just north of Taupo, the Waikato River (NZ’s longest river) hits the rocks and forms Huka Falls. It’s this awesome, and slightly scary waterfall, which tumbles out 220,000 litres of water every second. Very incredible.

As well the falls, there are some walks around the river that you can do, some short, some longer. There’s an information centre there, and it’s a big attraction for tourists. If you’re a New Zealander and you haven’t been…why not!? Get you bum down to Taupo and check them out! If you’re thinking of coming to NZ for a visit, the falls are well worth going to. Just add it to your things to do around Taupo.

Further down the river there’s a place called Aratiatia Rapids, which we also went to. Pictures from there will be on the blog in a few days time.
