Book Haul #4…

So this so-called ‘book haul’ isn’t really a book haul. Okay, it is. But it’s not. You know how in England I would go nuts and buy like 6-10 books in one go? And because books over there are so flippin’ cheap, and also there’s a great range of books in charity stores, it happened quite often. Well, books are really expensive here in New Zealand, nearly double the price as in the UK sometimes, which makes book hauls pretty much a non-event. However! There are some great bargains that you can pick up if you have the time to trawl through the sale bins and tables at book stores and in places like the Warehouse. This past month I’ve picked up a few books that have either sounded interesting, or I’ve recognised the author. I didn’t pay for than about $6 for each of these books, and one I got for $1! Score!

Touch of Power, by Maria V Snyder. 
You might remember that about a month ago I read Inside Out and also Outside In, by Maria V Snyder. I enjoyed those two books, and I had also seen Synder’s books on my friend’s bookshelf, so when I saw this book for only $1 in the Warehouse, I grabbed it without even reading the back. But after actually taking a minute to look at what I purchased, it sounds like a book I want to read. Score!

Exile, by Rebecca Lim
Years ago, before moving to England, I bought the first book in this series, Mercy, and while I haven’t read it yet when I saw Exile on the sale table for only $5 I knew I had to grab up it. That might sound silly, seeing as I haven’t read the first one yet and I might not even like it…but what if I love it, and then I want to read the next one right away…but I didn’t have it!? Not a problem any more, my friends!

Reckless, by Cornelia Funke
Growing up, one of my favourite books of all time was Inkheart, by Cornelia Funke. I haven’t seen the movie because I think it might just ruin everything. Anyway, I really love her writing, and I haven’t read anything by other than Inkheart, and perhaps the next one in that series. I found this, again, on a sale table for only $3, and the description sounded interesting, so I thought that was a pretty good buy.

Passion, by Lauren Kate
So…this series. Bit of a long story, but to chop it down and make it shorter for you, basically, I think I’ve read the first one, but I think I need to read it again to make sure. I bought the second on in this series, Torment, on a sale table years ago, but because I couldn’t remember if I had read the first one, Fallen, I haven’t read Torment. And then in Whitcoulls the other day I saw the third book, Passion, and knew I had to buy it. So now I have books 2 and 3, but I need to get book 1 to read (or re-read it!) before I read these ones. Sigh. Anjali, you’re ridiculous.

Anyway, that’s my pitiful book haul for the past few months. At the beginning of the year I did buy several books, including An Abundance of Katherines, and Paper Towns, both by John Green. I’ve also scored some free books from people who were getting rid of them…but all in all, book-buying is not a happening thing right now. Sigh.
