Warning: Photo overload! I mentioned the other day that my friend was up for the weekend last week, and we did a couple of things around Auckland that she had wanted to do. Thursday saw us heading to Kelly Tarltons, the Sea Life aquarium, Friday we saw The Fault in Our Stars and did some shopping in town, and then on Saturday we went to the Auckland Museum. We had a free pass, so after looking at the already free incredible wild life photography exhibition (with pictures from all over the word! It was truly stunning! Obvious you couldn’t take pictures, copyright), we headed through the museum.
I hate to compare, but I can’t help it; it’s so much smaller that all the museums I’ve been used to for the past few years. I’d been to Auckland Museum before, but after having been to the Victoria and Albert in London, and the Natural History Museum (also London), the Rijkesmuseum in Amsterdam, and even the museum we went to in Athens, Auckland Museum seemed like a single room. But nevertheless, it was pretty neat, and there were both things I remembered from previous visits, and things I hadn’t remembered at all.
While museums are usually atrocious places for taking pictures, due to ridiculously dim lighting, I’ve recently discovered that my 50mm fixed point lens works really well in dim light, so while my photos are mostly at a fixed point, they are brighter than they would have been had I taken them all on my 18-55mm lens. Anyway, moving swiftly along, here’s a bit of photo dump of the museum.

They also have a really cute section of all these little cute buildings, done up inside and out how they were back in the day (the bookshop, the barber, the pub etc), and you can walk through this little village, popping in and out of the shops. Super cute! The last two pictures are from those little shops.

We really enjoyed the Auckland Museum, and there is an interesting mix of New Zealand history as well as items from other countries, too.
