A Month of Books :: Fictional Worlds

Everyone has that book world that they secretly want to live in. Admit it. You do. I know I do. Actually, I want to live in nearly every world I read about…except without all the evil things. I would love to include Middle Earth on this list, but I kind of already live there. You know, except for the Mordor part, it’s pretty much exactly the same, Middle Earth and New Zealand. I’m also not including worlds that are pretty much the same as ours with added features…so unfortunately that includes the Wizarding world of Harry Potter. But here are some of the other awesome worlds out there that I really love, not including Middle Earth.

Narnia
Yup. Second to Middle Earth, Narnia is the place to be. And I quite enjoy winter, so even if Aslan never showed up, we’d be good. Life would be exciting with all those talking animals and exciting kings and queens running about the place.

Wonderland
No matter what book version you read of Alice in Wonderland, or whatever movie adaptation you watch, it’s always incredible. Lewis Carroll was a little bit mad, but he created an amazing land of wonder and creativity. I would really and truly love to go there. As long as my head didn’t get chopped off.

Alagaesia
I’ve always thought the land that Christopher Paolini created sounded beautiful but harsh and sharp at the same time. It would be an amazing valley if it were real. Surrounded by mountains and forest, it sounds like it would be real adventure, and definitely somewhere to take my camera, especially with all those dragons flying about the place.

The Edge
One of my favourite children’s series is The Edge Chronicles, and while each book stands on its own, all the books take place on the top of this huge drop of, a land called The Edge. It has everything from floating cities and cliff face caves to sky scraping mountains and thick woods. There’s also a vast range of wonderful and crazy creatures and characters. Yup. I wanna go there.

Neverland
Anyone else not want to grow up? Yeah me too. Let’s go and hang out with Peter and the Lost Boys, shall we? We can avoid Captain Hook and make friends with fairies. I’ve only read Peter Pan once, so I can’t really remember how different Neverland is in the book to in the movie versions, but either way it would be awesome! We know how to get there too. Second star to the right…and, well, you know the rest.

There are so many more incredible fictional worlds out there in the book-o-sphere.
