A Taste of Ireland came to Auckland.

Growing up my sister and I would watch endless hours of Lord of the Dance and other Riverdance shows … on VHS. I don’t know why we were so obsessed with it but the music and the dance moves definitely drew us in from a young age. I remember mostly watching the VHS tapes at my grandparents house, but if memory serves correctly we also had a few of our own.

When it was announced the A Taste of Ireland was coming to Auckland, on the same weekend that my sister happened to be visiting, we leapt at the chance to go. While I don’t think it’s technically a Lord of the Dance production, the dancers have come from the West End’s Lord of the Dance, and Ceili Moore performed the lead role opposite the famous Michael Flatley (of whom we have watch via video many a time). Close enough!

Needless to say it was an awesome night out. The music was stunning, the dances incredible (seriously, how do they keep their bodies so still when their feet are going nuts?!), and it was a pure joy to be a part of the audience.

Unfortunately, they only did one show here in Auckland, so if you weren’t there, you missed it. But if something like this ever comes to your city, then I recommend checking it out. It’s such a fund night out, and the dancers are so talented and a joy to watch.
