You need to go to Taste for Colour
If you haven’t heard of these guys, then Taste for Colour are a little studio in Birkenhead, Auckland, and they run painting classes throughout the week where you follow along with an artist and drink wine while you do it. Sounds like the perfect night out, right? Right.
Update: Taste for Colour is not longer in business, but there are others you can check out. Try Paintvine, Pinot and Picasso, or Paint N Chill.
A few weeks ago, 11 of my girl friends and I headed across the Auckland Harbour Bridge and spent the evening painting an African landscape. We rocked on up, took our places, put in our wine orders (ticket includes your first drink), and got ready to create some hilarious artworks.
But it actually turned out really well! The painting we did was super similar to one I had painted years ago as a Mother’s Day gift, and while that one had about 6 little elephants in it and no tree, the concept was the same.

While some of the girls were concerned it looked too hard (the final painting does look a little daunting!), the artist there took everyone through the painting step by step, explaining how she was doing things, which brushes to use, how to mix your colours properly etc etc. After a little while, I think everyone got the hang of it and were even surprised at how simple it ended up being when you broke it down into parts. Ladies if you’re reading this, care to add anything? Feel free to disagree with me too.

We managed to score Grab One deals for our tickets; however, they’re normally around $50 for the 2-hour session and your free drink. All the materials are provided, and you get to take your painting home. The team at Taste for Colour were super friendly, hospitable and accommodating. Definitely would recommend if you’re looking for a fun evening out!
Have you been to Taste for Colour? Or something similar?
Feel free to link up your painting in the comments! I’d love to see them!
