It doesn’t take much to convince me to go to Waiheke.
Not after my first trip there a few years back. So when some friends finished their post-grad studies this year, we decided to celebrate by heading on a Waiheke wine tour. More on that coming soon, but today I just wanted to share a few pictures from out time on the island.
Instead of just heading over for the tour and coming back again, we decided to catch the 9am ferry from Auckland‘s Downtown Terminal, and spend the entire day there. We booked a rental car for the day, and did a little exploring around the island. The only thing we definitively set our sites on was catching the Saturday morning market, which we did, and scored some delicious Chai flavoured fudge. Can I just throw a quick shout out to the lady who makes it? A-mah-zing.
The weather was rainy on and off, and while we did get wet a few times, it wasn’t enough to make us want to haul up in a cafe for the whole day. We headed to a spot for lunch, which had beautiful veiws out over the water, and when it was time, headed back to the ferry terminal where our tour guide was picking us from. More on that later.

If you ever get the chance to go to Waiheke Island, it’s well worth it. A return adult ferry ticket is $36, and for a child it’s $18. Make the most of your time over there and go for the whole day. It’s hard to get lost, as there aren’t many roads, and it’s the perfect place to just see what you can find.
Have you been to Waiheke Island?
