You need to go to The Lula Inn.

Before I get into the details, I thought I’d just do a quick explanation of Brunch Club. Brunch is a sister club to #NZBloggers, which is a community, website and resource provider for bloggers in New Zealand. Most months, the bloggers of Auckland get together for brunch (as they do around the country in various cities) to connect, support, and just generally hang out together.

Other events happen throughout the year like the flower crown-making they did a little while ago, but I haven’t been to a Brunch Club event in over a year! Looking back at my Brunch Club archive, the last event I attended was when we headed to Tasca, which was in October 2016. It was about time I joined the lovely ladies again.

Sunday saw us gathering outside The Lula Inn, which is down on Auckland Viaduct, on Quay Street. We had booked in for their famous Bottomless Brunch, and had the 11 – 1pm time slot.

Brunch has really become our favourite meal(s) of the day and we’ve improved it with bottomless daytime-appropriate mocktails, bubbly and cocktails.- The Lula Inn

The Bottomless Brunch ticket includes one meal from their delicious menu, and bottomless mocktails, mimosas, Bloody Marys and more. You can grab a cup of tea or coffee for a little extra, or order of the Espresso Martinis (ohmygosh).

For lent this year, I gave up junky food (which includes chocolate, fast food, chips etc as well as baking and sweet stuff that’s not necessary for living), but I also gave up bread (which was a dumb idea but I’ve done so well so far and not had any bread for 40 something days), so the menu was a little limiting for me (which is nothing on them and rather me trying to commit to my lent choices ha).

But! I ordered the ‘Cured Salmon Potato Hash with poached eggs, horseradish, beet kraut and watercress’, but I asked to swap out the salmon for bacon, because I’m not a fish fan. They were happy to oblige, and it was really nice. They did bring the bacon out on a separate plate though, which I found really odd. The dishwasher in me thought ‘no, minimise your work later by putting it on the same plate’.

For my drink I was happy with them filling up my mimosa glass because I don’t think I’ve ever had mimosas at brunch time, and also this video exists and it’s definitely a favourite of mine. “I love being fancy!”

One of my favourite things about getting together with the Auckland bloggers is that we all bring out our huge cameras and have no shame in collectively taking photos of absolutely everything. I remember my very first blogger meet up at The White Rabbit, and it was so lovely not feeling a little awkward about taking photos in a cafe.

It was so nice to get together with people who I’ve only met a few times (and a couple not ever!) and enjoy brunch together. If you ever get the chance to go to a blogger’s meetup then I highly recommend it.

Also quick side bar: The Lula Inn had a live DJ!
