One of my friends asked me the other day ‘is blogging still relevant in 2025?’. I felt like curling up into a ball in the corner of the room and rocking myself until I calmed down.

Okay, so that’s a little drastic, but I’m sure she saw the shock on my face.

If you’ve read some of my other posts, or just know me in general, you’re probably aware I love myself a good ole fashion blog post. It’s something I really enjoy because of how immersive it is compared to shorter pieces of content.

In a blog post, you can convey information, paint a picture, give your readers incentive to click through to more content and respond to comments. It’s the long-form content that really drew me to blogging when I started back in 2009.

And yes, things have changed a lot since those days, but blogging is still relevant in 2025. I promise. And in this blog post (oh the irony), we’re going to take a look at why it’s still relevant and hopefully, I can persuade you that blogging isn’t dead (and maybe you should start one 😉).

8 reasons why blogging is still relevant in 2025

  1. Search Engines love blogs
  2. Showcase your expertise
  3. Provide long-form value
  4. Grow your audience or your customer base
  5. Make a living
  6. Connect with others
  7. Expand your business network
  8. Builds your brand

Google loves a blog

If you type in a question or a topic into Google, chances are a blog will be one of your first results. Whether you realise it or not, the answers to the questions that you’re searching for are likely to be found in a blog post.

As search engines like Google wander through the internet searching for new content, it will often find blog posts containing the keywords that you’ve popped into the search engine. It’s going to show you what it thinks is the best piece of content to solve your problem. And the majority of those search results are going to blog posts, whether they be on a personal blog or a business blog.

Showcase your expertise

Blogging provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase your expertise on a topic. To show people you’ve got the goods about XYZ. Whether you’re writing blogging tips like this post here, or you’re a dog groomer sharing about the top 10 best brushes for caring for your dog at home … you’re able to really showcase your knowledge a in the form of a blog post.

Blogging to share your expertise is especially good for service-based businesses. Think about it: if you’re about to hire a Virtual Assitant, then you want to make sure they have what it takes to do all the things you need them to do in your business. If that VA has a blog you can check out, you’ll be able to see their expertise in the various areas they provide services for, and you’ll be able to gauge straight off the bat whether they’re going to be a good fit or not.

Provide long-form value

It’s true that people’s attention spans are waning more and more. I fear soon we won’t be able to concentrate on anything ever again! (Bit extreme? Maybe. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Creating content for social media is a lot different from creating blog posts. Social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook are prime for short-form content. People love bite-sized pieces of content, but the trouble with this is that there’s only so much we can share on a certain topic.

By writing blog posts that are full of information, you’re able to provide long-form content that has everything a reader needs to know about a certain topic. The longer the post, the more information you can provide, the longer they’re going to stay on your blog post … the better it is for your site and your business.

Grow your audience or your customer base

If you’re a business owner, it’s likely that you’re always looking for ways to get your brand in front of more people. Unlike creating content for social media, writing blog posts allows you to grow your audience and also your customer base!

Blogging helps attract new customers, that’s hands-down one of the best reasons to start a blog for your business. If you haven’t started a blog yet for your business but have been thinking about it, let’s chat!

Going back to the idea that people are looking for answers to their search queries: when they land on your blog post about XYZ not only will they discover all the answers to their questions, but they’re right there on your website. You can use that opportunity to direct them to book a call with you, purchase one of your courses or programmes, and show them that you have a tool or product that will help them even more than your blog post will. Adding a call-to-action (like we would on social media) is a great way to get our readers interacting with our blog content.

Make a living

If you’re blogging for business, then hopefully you’re already making a living from your business, or at least a bit of a side-hustle.

But if you’re ready to start making money from your blog, and you’re good at it, you can turn your blog into a career and make a living from blogging. Every year people are flocking to online businesses, and this year is no exception. We’re already seeing so many more blogs, online businesses, and shops pop up all over the place.

Don’t think that blogging is still relevant? Just as the thousands of people making a living from their online content. See what they think.

Connect with others

One of my all-time favourite things about having a blog is the opportunity to connect with others.

Over my time blogging, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and connecting with hundreds of incredible bloggers in a wide range of niches. You can use a blog to find mentors or coaches, discover opportunities and get advice. Blogging can also help you connect with others who are in the same situation as you and allow for mutual support. And we LOVE that! Connecting with others through blogging not only gives you friends for life, but you grow and learn so much from each other in the process.

I’ve met some of my favourite people via my blog. And it’s crazy to think that, but it just goes to show what a difference having this online space has had, and continues to have on my life.

Expand your business network

Speaking of connecting with others: blogging is great for expanding your business networks!

When like-minded people connect around the things they are passionate about, magical things happen, that’s for sure.

In 2014 I had just arrived back in New Zealand from a stint in the UK, and while I had had my blog for many years already by then, I hadn’t really ever connected with other bloggers in my niche or where I was living. When I arrived home I started connecting with other bloggers (read the point above), and one of the amazing things was that as soon as I started making these networks, doors opened for me.

I started working with publishers because one of the bloggers I met knew an in. I was approached by companies to work with them because someone had given my name to them. Now years later, I get people referred to me simply because I expanded my business and blogging network.

Builds your brand

Much like we would build a brand on social media (especially visual-heavy platforms like Instagram), you can build your own personal brand or business brand by having a blog.

When people start getting used to your writing style, your turns of phrase, your use of emojis 🍸🌻✨🧙🏻‍♂️, your colour palettes, your images, your headshots, your fonts, your voice … then they going to start recognising your content around the internet. Having a blog really helps you build up that brand and allows you to stand out in your industry.

Is blogging still relevant in 2025?

Blogging is still relevant in 2025 because it helps you build your brand, share your insights and expand your network. It’s one of the best ways to build your brand, show off your expertise, and give you the opportunity to connect with people who share your interests and insights. It is still very much as relevant in 2025 as it ever has been.

In fact, I’d say it’s thriving! I believe 2025 is going to be a huge increase in blog content; people are craving connection and one of the ways that we as an online society have connected over the years has been through blogging.

We’re definitely going to want to watch this space!

And if my friend sees this post, I hope I’ve convinced you.
