Is Blogging Still a Thing in 2026? Let’s Talk About It.

It happens almost daily now that I see content online on platforms like Threads and Instagram, where people are asking the same thing: “is blogging still a thing?”
As a blogger of over a decade now (👵🏻), this obviously breaks my soul, and I cringe and also die a little inside.
But I do actually get it. Between AI writing everyone’s English essays (my dad is a teacher and this is such a common problem!), TikTok yelling for three-second attention spans, and Google constantly reinventing itself like it’s trying to win America’s Next Top Model … It’s normal to look at your blog, the traffic (or lack thereof) and wonder if it still matters.
Or even wonder if it’s worth starting that blog you’ve been thinking about recently (I see you 👀).
“Is it worth starting a blog in 2026?” Well, grab a coffee and scooch in a little bit. Because I’ve got thoughts. And receipts. And possibly a little pep talk coming your way.
So, is blogging still a thing in 2026?
Short answer: yes. Slightly longer answer: absolutely, yes. 😂🙈
Blogging hasn’t vanished. It’s just grown up a little? Change a little? Hit 30? I don’t know the right metaphor haha.
When I first started my first blog in 2009, it was very easy to slap together 300 words about Sunday brunch and magically appear on page one of Google. Our photos, as bloggers, could be a bit rough around the edges, the sentences could be long and unedited, it could really be stream of consciousness, and it’d be fine.
Alas, the internet’s a different beast now. People want substance. They want voices they trust. They want help, inspiration, connection. People are getting sick of social media (especially when Instagram seems to be showing our content to less and less people, amiright?), and they’re craving more.
And blogs, real blogs, written by people with real stories and real expertise, are one way that people can connect, without relying on a social media platform.
In fact, the blogs that are going to be thriving in 2026 are going to do better than ever because the fluff has fallen away. And I’m here for it.

What’s actually changed since the old days
Let’s do a quick rundown, or recap, of a few things that have changed in the blogging sphere since ‘the old days’ – and I’m talking like early 2000s. And heck, even up to just a few years ago!
AI has done us a bit of a dirty
But it doesn’t mean that we can’t utilise that. We just need to think about things a little bit differently.
For example, people aren’t always typing their searches into Google anymore. They’re asking their chat assistants, like ChatGPT, reading summaries, scanning results and blog posts. That means your blog needs to be clear, helpful, and structured in a way AI can understand… but still written for humans who want a real voice.
Something that is going to help is well-formatted blog posts. See how in this one I’ve used good headings, some bullet points, broken up large paragraphs? That’s all going to help.
We can use AI for lots of things to help us with our blogs, but we need to remember that our readers are the heart of everything we do. Right? Hi that’s you right now 👋🏻 I hope this has been helpful so far.
Trust matters more now
Trust has always been important – that hasn’t really changed at all – it’s just a little bit different now, given the times we’re in.
And it’s not just AI that has people questioning things these days. It’s the media, the news, the chaos that seems to surround us literally all the time.
Blogs help build up that trust with our readers and potential customers or clients. We’re able to share more about our experiences and niches, and that really helps with connection and trust.
Generic content probably won’t do as well as it used to
If your post could be written by anyone, then it might not be top of the list. Your lived experience, your stories, your perspective, that’s what is going to matter in 2026.
This was how it was in the ‘old days’ – we shared about our lives, about the things we were doing, places we were going, things we were buying. And then somewhere along the way, many of us bloggers moved to more factual, informative, educational content.
And it’s not that that is bad. We need that! It’s that we’ve lost a bit of that storytelling that we were so good at back in the day.
In 2026, and the years to come, we’re going to need to find that beautiful balance between educating people and helping people and giving tips and tricks and all those things … with our stories. People connect with people. So we gotta make sure we’re doing our best to connect.
Social media has changed, even in the last few years
Probs not just the algorithm.
I’ve seen a lot of people asking ‘is blogging still a thing’ because they’re getting sick of social media.
Social media that was meant to be just that: social, has become a place where we all just send memes of pandas falling off playground equipment (guilty 🤚🏻) or the latest Stranger Things Season 5 theories (oh my gosh, right?! What a show).
But I know I, for one, leave fewer comments, connect with people less and less on social media. And it’s not just me. It’s nearly all of us. We’re fatigued by fastness. We’re craving the slower media, the slower days, the slower pace.
So we need to find, again, that balance of using social media when we can, but knowing that our blogs are our main home base.
Niches are a little different, too
Something else that is different from the old days is that the internet is very saturated … but people crave specificity.
A blog that’s for someone will often outperform a blog that tries to be “for everyone.”
And to be honest with you, if I were starting a blog in 2026, I probably wouldn’t create something like This Splendid Shambles. It’s too broad. It covers travel and books and blogging tips, and occasionally a creative post. Like, VERY occasionally.
While I don’t think you have to niche all the way down, I do think that it’ll help more these days to niche down at least a bit.
What I mean by that is instead of being a ‘lifestyle blog’ where you write about everything to do with lifestyle (which might be things like baking, cooking, home decor, style, design etc), you might change it up and do something like:
- Home DIY
- Home styling for families
- Vegan cooking
- Gardening for beginners
They’re all still lifestyle-adjacent, but they’re going to help people pinpoint whether your blog is for them. They see ‘gardening for beginners’ posts and think ‘that’s me’ and follow along.
If I were starting a blog today, I’d focus on travel or books or blogging, but probably not all of them.

Why blogging still works
Just because blogging has changed and the environment we’re blogging in has changed, doesn’t mean that blogging isn’t worth it.
Blogging still works to:
- Build that trust, especially if you’re a business
- Visibility in the long run
- Builds up your brand (personal or business!)
- Allows you to share stories and expertise
- And be real
And for women building small businesses, side hustles, or creative projects? A blog becomes this incredible asset; something that works while you’re doing life, travelling, taking breaks, being a human. Which is what we love.
It gives you a place to share your expertise, your stories, your lessons learned, and your helpful resources. It gives you something to link to when someone asks a question you’ve answered 27 times already.
Plus? One solid blog post can bring you readers for years. I’d like to see an Instagram carousel to that!
How are blogs winning in 2026?
Let me give you a quick list, because it’s honestly so clear once you see it. People are moving to blogs more and more (or at least are seriously thinking about it!), and when they do, it means that:
- They publish less often, but with more depth
- Who needs 7 social media posts a week that will be forgotten about next week, when you can have 1 blog post a week that will bring in traffic for literally years?
- They stay in their lane
- Or rather, their niche. They really get to hone in on their expertise!
- They show up consistently (even slowly)
- Once a week or once a month is still consistent!
- They’re showcasing what they’re about
- Or what their brand is about
- They’re educating people
- Which is such a privilege!
- They refresh older posts to keep bringing in the traffic
- Eden from Maven Made Copy came into The Blogging Room at the end of 2025 and talked specifically about how updating older blog posts can bring in so much more traffic than just writing new blog posts.

If you’re thinking about starting a blog in 2026 …
If you’ve been one of those people who have been asking Threads about whether blogs are still a thing or are they worth writing these days … and you’ve been on the edge about whether you should start a blog or now …
Here are some things to remember if you take the blogging plunge:
- Choose a niche that lights you up. Not just one you think will ‘get traffic’. You need to be able to basically not shut up about it.
- Answer real questions people actually ask. You can find that by googling things in your niche or asking your peers if you know they are interested in your topic.
- Talk to your reader like she’s your friend. Coz if you met her in real life, she probably would be! You like the same things!
- You could focus on some evergreen content first – that is, not seasonal – so that you’re able to give your blog a good chance from the get-go.
And please don’t expect everything to blow up in a month. You’re building something that lasts longer than a weekend on Instagram. You need to give your blog time.
Also! Community matters. Truly. Bloggers who surround themselves with other bloggers stay consistent, motivated, and way less overwhelmed. (Hi, this is literally why I created The Blogging Room.)
Where AI Fits into all of this (without taking over)
Quick note on AI and where it fits into all of this, especially in 2026. And you probably know it all already, right, but just as a reminder …
AI can outline your content, help with research, edit your work, brainstorm ideas… all this is helpful. But it cannot write your personal story. It can’t replicate your voice, your humour, your life experience, your way of seeing the world.
So use AI as your assistant to help you out, and not just your ghostwriter. Make sure you’re adding things to anything it gives you; it’s a guide, after all.
What I’m Seeing Right Now: Genuine Wins from Real Bloggers

Okay okay, I hear ya! I really do. So here are some of the blogging wins from my members.

These bloggers with their wins are people just like you – bloggers and business owners who want to write, connect, share stories and experience and expertise.
They are wonderful bloggers simply showing up in steady, sustainable ways.
So… Should you start a blog in 2026? My honest thoughts
If you feel that nudge, that spark, that teeeeny voice that says “I kind of want to try this”… I think you should go for it.
Not because it’s trendy or that’s what the cool kids are doing (I’m not that cool, I’ll just say that ha).
Not because it’ll make you rich in 3 weeks (it won’t).
But because it’s one of the best ways to share something meaningful, build something long-lasting, and create opportunities you don’t even know exist yet. Especially if you’re a business.
Blogging is still a thing in 2026, a very powerful thing, when you do it with intention and heart and YOU.
