Book Advent Calendar From the Book Grocer – Fantasy Box 2025

In 2024, I discovered that the Book Grocer offered a book Advent calendar, and I was heckin’ excited about it. At the time, I was a bit late to the game, and I really wanted the Fantasy box, which had sold out. So instead, I got the Young Adult box, knowing that the chances were high that I’d get some fantasy reads in that box anyway. And I was right. It was a great box.
Fast forward to 2025, and I knew that if I wanted to get in there and secure the Fantasy Box, I had to be quick off the mark. It’s a very popular box, so as soon as I got the launch email, I was in.
What I forgot was that they ship the box immediately. No waiting around until November or something. Which meant that I had a box of wrapped up box sitting in a box in my bedroom from August onwards. 🤣🤣🤣 The sheer willpower not to dive in there early … I should get a prize. Or 24 books. Either or.
Book Advent Calendar? Tell me more.
Absolutely will. The Book Grocer Book Advent Calendar / Box is basically what it sounds like. It’s a box full of wrapped-up books, all labelled with numbers 1-24, and the idea is that you open a book each day from December 1st through to December 24th, like you would the little doors on a chocolate Advent Calendar (or similar).
The Book Grocer is based in Australia, and currently ships the boxes around Australia and also New Zealand.
Each year they have different types of Advent book boxes: general fiction, fantasy, young adult, romance, crime, historical etc. You can pick which box you want, just be warned that they do ship it straight away. So you might need someone to hide it for you.
The 2025 Fantasy Box
I was stoked to get a fantasy box this year, and for the most part, it didn’t disappoint. In a box of 24 books, here are some stats from my end:

- Authors I’ve read before: 10
- Books I already owned: 4
- Sequels without book one: 4
- First in a series: 11
- Standalones: 6

100% yes. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Even though I had a few books this year that were sequels without the first book in the box too, and there were a handful that I had already read or owned, it was still worth it. One of the things I love about this box (other than the books, duh) is discovering new-to-me authors or books.
There were some in here that I had literally never heard of, and now I get to read those and potentially discover my new fave authors. Who knows!
I’m definitely keen to get another Book Grocer Advent Box next year!
